Default Carry on tackle on airline

Any of you guys ever carry tackle in your luggage on airlines? I was wondering if its ok to have crankbaits, hooks, worms etc, but no knife on a carryon bag. I know if you have luggage stored below its no biggie. Usually when we hit southern fl. I have my niece drive my gear down but this year we all are flying.
I plan on one plano box and one spinning reel, will buy a rod when I get there.
thanks for any info

I don't think they'd like that, Jack...

I always put stuff in my checked bags. Last year I checked four rods on one of those Bazooka tubes and it got dragged down the runway and broken. I think it is better to just buy a rod when you get there and ship it home, which I have done before too. Some airlines allow you to carry on a rod, but what a pain that would be unless it is a multi-piece. I'm still considering getting one, but there aren't many good travel rods out there.

How about shipping your tackle via UPS so that it arrives just before you do? Then ship it home when you leave.

The only tackle I usually carry on is my "wedding tackle" and they usually check that by hand

Just hang your favorite plug from your tongue, nose or eyebrow and you are golden!
