Reel custom painting and modifications?
I've been looking around the tackle tour forums for a while, and I found a whole new realm of reels! First off, I learned you can get reels custom painted, I've seen some guy's pics of there custom reels.... they look absolutely amazing!! I'm think about doing this on my next reel. Any of you done this? I also found out you can up grade reels. Add better bearing, smoother free spool, and upgrade the drag. Anyone do this either?
Thanks!

If you can't paint, like me, it's going to be a pain in the phanny. I did it to my pflueger trion lp and I done screwed it up. I did use spray paint. It is so ugly that I think it is now theft proof.
It is easiest to take the reel apart and paint it piece by piece. Upgrading reels can be fun and expensive to.

Post some pics of these reels you've been looking at PM what you've been thinking about and we'll talk. I've been doing a lot of guitars for people from other states lately, why not baitcasters too |

I like that flat black one a lot.
I have all the pearls, candies, chameleons, flakes, flats, colors, to do anything. We can even do chrome or true fire, rattle snake skin....anything. The sky and your mind are the limit BB, just send it to me taken apart. |

I think I'll keep it simple, just every where where the core is red, make it red! And the red star drag.

sac,
that is cool that you can do this. what protectant/sealant would you recommend that such painted reels be coated with after the paint job for protection?

You guys can use macaroni and glitter to add texture! It will help you palm the reel! Woo hooo!!!
There are numerous upgrades out there. Every so often I like reading the JapanTackle website. The Japs do a great job staying on the cutting edge of stuff and their reels are normally much more refined than American market reels, but they ofter offer upgrades in spools, handles and sometimes bearings and drags. I like the carbon handles with the cork grips, but I cant pay the price of a new reel for a handle. I very, very much want a new japaneese Abu Morrum ZX though. I have the older one and its my favorite reel by a mile, but the new one sure is purty.

Thanks. Could you give a recommendation on a brand of urethane clearcoat? Thanks again.

Thanks, again sac. I foolishly used spray paint the first time around. What paint(s) would you recommend. I have an airbrush now.
