Default First Bass on a Crankbait

I went back to the golf course pond tonight to catch a few more bass. I caught 2 nice ones on a cotton candy lizard. Then I decided to try a crankbait. I caught 6 more and lost a good size one and few smaller ones.I learned a few things fishing cranks that are very different than when I fish weightless plastics on 2/0 to 4/0 EWG hooks.1. Don't set the hook to hard. Use a smooth side sweeping motion.2. Try to keep the fish from jumping.3. Loosen the drag.4. Work the fish to the bank. Don't try to muscle them straight to shore.Below is a picture of my first bass on a crank. Sorry it's fuzzy. I was having some issues with my camera. The second picture is one of the nice little guys that I caught on the lizard.

any time you try to muscle a bass on a crank you'll lose him...there are times that a bass will jump even if you have the rod jammed 3 feet down in the water..

good job golf

Way to go, Fng. Always nice to catch some bass with a new bait! What crank were you using?

wtg FnG! Cranks are fun when the fish are biting them! This fall, (if it's like any other falls I've ever had) crankbaits should be a fire! I'm so existed!

Oh, and also, that's a SWEET looking combo you gots there! What is it?

Small crankbaits & Rapalas on light tacle for those sized bass can make a fun day!

Nice F&G , I can honestly say that I have not thrown a crankbait all summer but it's about that time of the year .

Congrats on that milestone. You're right on with your findings. Zook's right too about muscling them. Patience and letting the rod, reel and line work for you are the keys.
