Default Pre-bragging?

I'm excited because I get to go cat fishing tomorrow. My good buddy is going to show me his hot spot...a nice little eddy on the Ohio. This is the place where he caught his 74 pounder. So tonight I stopped and bought a ridiculous heavy Ugly Stick to slap my Winch on and some 80lb Power Pro. Hopefully, I'll get to really test that paddle handle it came with. He says the catfish bite is in full force right now, so hopefully tomorrow I can post some braggin photos. (Either that or some hospital photos, the way I've been going LOL)

BAH...no bragging tonight.

I only had one hard bite today. It took my line and set my clicker to chattering. I set the hook, felt the weight of the fish for just a second (twas a big one too), and my 30lb leader broke. I guess it was from all of the abrasion on the rocks. Lost one of my nice stainless 9/0 Gammy circle hooks. Somewhere in the Ohio there is a big cat with a hook that is never gonna rust out.

Oh well, there is always next time. At least my 8' Ugly Stick appears to be a perfecto catfish rod.

Nice pairing NFE....... an UGLY stick for an UGLY fish. Not that I really care that that a catfish will be swimming around with a hook in it's mouth - but why stainless? I understand in saltwater maybe, but was that all you could find in a 9/0 perhaps? I would think a 9/0 in a regular hook would have been strong enough.

My buddy catches 70 pounders at this spot. I didn't really buy the stainless for the rust resistance...the thickest, meanest hook I could find just happened to be stainless (and thus expensive...bye bye money haha).

Even a new state record cat isn't straightening that hook out.

Oh, and by the way...blue cats are purrrrrdy.
