Default im never using these hooks again

i dont know the exact brand name of the hook, but they are wide gap hooks. i went today and caught 2 bass between 3-4 lbs each. thing is i was usin those hooks and on both fish i couldnt get the hooks out. i kno if i was using straight hooks i wouldnt of have had a problem. on the first fish, the hook was through his mouth and then punntured deeper in his mouth. i tried usin my fingers to get it out and when that didnt work i used my pliers. still couldnt get it out, this has happen to me before w/ a straight hook and i had no problem. the second fish had almost swallowed it. the hook was through that guishy stuff behind his tounge. again i used my fingers and it didnt work. then i got my pliers out and keeped triing to get it out before the fish died. so after i felt that the hook wasnt comin out, and the fish was out of the water long enough, i just cut the line. its sake to say i wont be using those hooks anymore and that i will be getting something that can cut through the hook.

Bassfisher, just close the barb behind the hook point with some pliers.

Its also a good thing to carry a small really sharp pocketnife with you. I've had to make little cuts in pieces of the basses skin before in order to ge the hook out.

I got a pair of side cutters at Sears that have about a 30 degree bend in the handle that will allow you to cut the hook off flush with the fish's mouth, but I found a better way to get the hook out-I'm going to post that on a new thread.

just cut the hook up with some side cutters,no problem.
those sound like some really good hooks.that's the kind of hook you want,,,,one that doesn't come out.
why would you want to get rid of a good hook and use a hook that increases your chance of losing a fish?
cut the hook up into little pieces if you have to,,it's only a hook.

BASSFISHER,

Sometimes I find that it is easier to run the hook on thru and cut the barb off outside the fish, then pull the barbless hook back thru the fish. Hooks don't cost that much, and you need to re-tie anyhow.

Sorry I've been gone for a few day's and just thought of posting something for this thread.

Ever thought of using forceps these work great. deep runnig and thin also lock in to place. pliers still make it hard to roll out the hook when deep in the throat. What you do is hook on to the hook near the barb push straight back they way the hook was set. badda bing badda boom comes out easy peezy lemon squeezy.

so take the forceps and hook them by the barb and push back towards the throat so that the eye of the hook goes threw were the hook pierced the fish?
