The cork end of the rod.

I really don't the name of that section of rod, and I am sure one of you lovely people will inform me what it is called when this is all said and done, but thats not important.

BPS offers a combo they have in three different styles. My question has to do with the pistol grip ones. What exactly would be the purpose of that style of handle. Looks extremely uncomfortable to use all day long.

Trav, I like a pistol grip for topwaters and floating worms. When working a bait fast with the rod tip like walking the dog with a Zara Spok the long handle of a trigger stick gets in the way. It is not uncomfortable to use at all-I palm my reels, so the type of handle doesn't matter that much. Most of the pistol grips are shorter than trigger sticks, 5 1/2 feet or so, and some folks feel like they can get better accuracy with them making short casts. They were real popular several years ago, and now they are apparently making a comeback.

Oddly enough that's called "The Handle", and some people like a pistol grip one. In theory it gives you a more comfortable grip on the rod. I like the one BPS "Power Hump" rod I've got, and I like the two pistol grip ones I've got too. I'm pretty adaptable to such things. I do like pistol grip rods for things like spinnerbaits.

Other people can't stand them.

Damn Power Humps. I used to fishBPS rods exclusivelt for the past 20 years or so. That darn hump is awful.

I like pistol grips for topwaters, especially propbaits or poppers. There is just a different feel to them when using topwaters, it could be all mental in my case but I prefer pistol grips.

Again it becomes a preference thing. All my baitcasting rods have pistol grips and that damn powerhump that so many people hate. Personnally I like the powerhump. Biggest point I can give you is when at the store test out all the different ones and find out which is most comfortable for you and for the application you will be using. Brand names dont mean crap if your equipment doesnt feel right TO YOU. 8)

100% true!

Yes, I could remove the humps but I shouldn't have to mar the rod to get it to my liking. I switched brands anyway. I'm much better off now. Way back in the day, BPS made a foam power hump for their Bionic Blade rods, that was a good handle.
