if it's baitcasting,i would use no bigger than 1/2 ounce. if its spinning, then no bigger than 1/4 ounce. it might not have been your rod,it could have been to light a line or an abrasion near the knot.

6-6 MH? Any bait with a single hook: T-rig, C-rig, jig, spinnerbait-it is the best all-around length and action for a bass rod IMO. For baits with a treble hook I like a M action. It has more give to help keep from tearing the hooks out of a fish's mouth.

I don't think a "too heavy" bait would snap line(if the line were good), it'd snap the rod. The wink link is the culprit and the weak link was your line. How strong is it? was it damaged in any way?

Anything you'd be using in a normal bass fishing scenario can be fished on a medium heavy rod.

IMO I never use line that lite. I don't use any less that 14lb but it also depends on the clarity of the water. If you are fishing clear water, try using a fluorocarbon line or a copolymer with a fluorocarbon coating. I really like the Gamma Edge copolymer because the diameter to pound test weight ratio is less than monofilament and a lot stronger. For someone who does not fish every day with a baitcast reel, the copolymer will also be more forgiving than the fluorocarbon when it comes to backlashing.

welcome to the forum, skeeterdone! i think rebbasser cover it all on lures to use with that rod. i use that specific lenght and action for texas rigs and jigs under 1/2 ounce. as far as line goes, i have been very satisfied with trilene big game.i use 15lb green on my 6'6'' medium heavy and have never broken a fish off.

I would tell you that using 10lb line on a medium-heavy rod is not a good idea. If you're fishing in an area that requires 10lb line..use a medium rod.

I didn't read the second part.

pitchin and flippin I would use at LEAST 20lb line and that would be the lightest. Most people that do a lot of pitchin and flippin will be using braid, and if not braid then a very hefty mono or copoly line.

Just for reference, I have 10lb line on my spinning reel..which I'd NEVER try to fish in heavy cover with such as that which you'll be flippin in. On my baitcasters, I have no lower than 14lb line. The heaviest is 50lb PowerPro that I use to flip/pitch.

it happen to me a few times too.the odd time when you are casting a lure ,the lures hooks get caught on the line thus breaking the the line.

When I bought my new Quantum PTi, Bass Pro put their 10lb line on my reel also. Guess what, that stuff snapped as well. I wanted to put Power Pro on there, but Quantum and their infinate wisdom didn't make their new top of the line reel with a titanium lipped spool. So I don't want it to get eat up like my old reel. (I usually stick w/ my baitcasters anyway)
