Fall spawn and when to start hitting the ponds hard again
So when does the bite pick back up in the fall? I think it depends on the water temperature for the fish to spawn again (if I remember correctly from reading some threads on here). But I am not one to keep track of the water temperature for now so I am looking for an "average" or rough time frame that it begins. I am in Alabama so anyone with some experience due to years past in this area, would you guys give me a rough time as to when the fall spawn typically happens?

The bite should be picking up real soon. I havent been fishing in a week, but I got a couple buck bass and a couple redfish in an hour or so last week - it was OK. You feel that little bit of dry coolness in the air? That means its gonna get good soon.
The spawn occurs when the bradford pears bloom around here - first 2 weeks of march or so. We are a long way off. PS, I'm gonna PM you with a suggestion. I had a good day one fall on a lake that is local to you.

Shortly after the first cold front and the water starts to cool down. Occurring here this week.

All I can tell you is that the fish I caught last weekend seem to have had the feed bag on during the entire weekend. The only problem is that we have had so much rain lately and the water levels are spiking so much that it seems like they are having a problem getting into full fledge gorging! I can only hope that they are in the mood this weekend!

here in the midwest the bite picks up when the water temps are 70-74 and then start lowering. look for fish near wood or rocks in 3 ft of water
(give or take)...the bite is great as the temps fall, usually till the water temp is 50ish, then it slows down a tad. |

Water temps won't drop for a month or so out this way. Air temps stay in the mid to upper 80's through Sept and in to Oct. Good in some ways, because the bite only slows down in Dec-Feb.

Congrats to mrsbamabassman! Don't worry man, you'll get soon enough. We haven't been out fishing near enough. We should be hitting all the little lakes and reservoirs around here. We just need to get that damned trolling motor working again. then we'll be out.

What do you mean by redfish? You're not talking about red drum, are you?
