Default Pre-fishing cold water

Hey guys,

I've been struggling during the pre fishing for a tourney next week. I caught only two over the weekend, one smallie and one LM, bouth were roughly 3 pounds. The LG came off an island in 22ft of water, but I drew him out of about 10feet with a sunny crank...the second came off a log in 4 feet with a shallow chart. crank. The water temp was 38-42, with the warmer being in the area I marked 2nd fish on the map.

Here's my thoughts: The spawn is no where near happening, so most of the larger females are still in the staging areas probably 30-40 feet deep. I have tried some suspended baits & jigs, but the clarity is less than 2 feet in most places and I'm afraid I'm not getting down deep enough. Also, there were white-caps that were nearly 4ft on the main lake which almost threw me out of the boat a few times (that would not be good, I don't think I would last 2 mins in that water).

The weather is gonna suck this week, 20's for the next couple nights with an inch of rain expected all day tomorrow. I'm taking thurs. off from work and hoping for the best as I'm attempt to break down this body of water. Any suggestions are highly encouraged.

The black stars are areas where I fished, I was going to try to fish the sunken island, but I was struggling to keep the trolling motor in the water. This link will give you a better idea of the lake: http://www.state.me.us/ifw/fishing/l...nskee_lake.pdf

I'd work those area's with the DROP-SHOT & T-Rigged tubes. On the drop shot go with 4inch worm. Ohhvery very slow!!!!

I'd try some primary points that lead into spawning coves. Deeper water first, then move up. Don't be suprised if the fish move up fast this time of year. Besides the drop shot and tubes, try a black 1/4 or 1/8 hair jig. Also some sort of susp. jerkbait. (Rogue)
