Stinging up
I have cleaned my rods and reels, organized my tackle, and purchased my fishing licenses. It is almost time to string up my rods for the spring. I will be using McCoy's Mean Green Co-Polymer.
Here is my question: How do you go about stringing up your spinning gear? My fishing buddy went to one of those professional bass schools and was told that the line must come from the sticker-label side of the spool. Anyone have any thoughts on this? How bout' line stringers . . . I have a cheapie from BPS that seems to work well but I can't remember if I had the line coming off the bottom or the top of the spool. Any thoughts on this? |

Keep tension on the line, palce it in warm water before spooling it up, have a rag coated with KVD's line stuff, or reel magic, ........
Well on second thought just put Powerpro or Fireline on it and forget all that crap. Lizards

I noticed that many of this sites members really like that Powerpro. As for me, I really like the Mean Green. It took years (and all kinds of line problems) to finally find a line that I am comfortable with. I am hard pressed to change now.
However, if I happen to purchase a flippin stick for workin the cabbage, I may give the Powerpro a try. |

this is what the trilene boxes says to do. Lay the spool label side up and rell a little on, check for line twist, if there is twist flip the spool over and reel the rest of the way on. Hope this helps.

LovinFishin, thanks . . . I actually never took the time to read a line box. However, since the pros had mentioned their stringing up techniques during the bass school, I started to think more about it. Sometimes I wonder if my line twists could be avoided by stringing up a different way.

Guys, I don't care how you spool up a spinning reel you WILL have line twist-it is the nature of the beast. I've found 2 ways to eliminate it: If you want to take the time on the water let it trail out behind the boat as you are running-just don't tie anything to it, and crank it on when you stop running.
The other way is once you have it spooled on at home, open the bail, grab the end of the line, and walk to the other end of the house-I loop it over a doorknob and then walk back to where I left the rod. Then I wind it back on. Use your fingers to keep it tight, and as it pulls through your fingers it will untwist. Simple solutions for what can be a real problem.

Loose loops that go flying off the spool making one big mess.

Went fishing Wed. and a buddy of mine just put new line on his spinning reel. Put it on just like the way you would do a baitcaster. The first cast sailed it through the air just fine. Second cast it tied a knot around an eye of the rod and had a glob of line that looked like don king on a bad hair day.
