Spinnerbait-trailerhooks-grubs
Any of you spinnerbait guru's run a trailer hook off your spinnerbait/with a grub? I am wondering if the grub will get in the way, or is it wise to just run the spinnerbait with a trailer hook and NO grub?....

Try a split-tailed trailer. The trailer hook rides in between the 2 "tails" on the trailer. Otherwise if I use a grub or twin-tailed grub I don't use a trailer hook.

JB, I recollect that you put Kalin's on the back of your spinnerbaits (or was it buzzbaits). Do you keep the Kalin's grub on your bait along with the trailer hook? Just curious . . . I am not a big spinnerbait guy but plan on using them more this year. I was considering experimenting with trailers including using the Kalin's grubs that you mentioned.
Of course, I have another question. What size trailer hooks do you use? |

Yes your correct about me using Kalins lemon chafone 3inch grub, but I have to agree that the fat albert does the job just as good! I used a 1/0 or 2/0 trailer, going to get some split tail (manns) in white for rebs idea of the trailer and trailerhook...thats the fun of fishing , experimenting with ideas and trickin out your game..if it works, more power to me,, if not, it was worth trying...these bass need something dif to look at sometimes.
That reminds me, I need a few hank parkers in my box...(Manns Classic) One of my old mentors (Jr.Eby) had one of Hanks Parkers Ranger bass boat, that he had used for a year and then the sponcer gave him a new one, I think it was a 361V Ranger, |

JB, By no means am I a great spinnerbait fisherman, but now I never use a trailer because of the lakes I fish have both smallmouth and largemouth hanging around grassbeds where I burn the spinnerbaits over.I have noticed that I will catch more smallmouth when not using a trailer on the spinnerbait than when I did use a spinnerbait trailer. The only time I use a trailer on a spinnerbait is when I am fishing Pickerel tournaments. The toothy critters really like sparkle flaked trailers or chartreuse colored trailers. you can buy zoom split tails probably a bit cheaper than manns. This year I'm going to try the Yum cajun trailer and see how it works out vs. the normal looking split tail.
