Crickets

Anyone know if crickets is a good bait for bass? If so, how do you fish them. I was looking in an old tackle box and found a case full of dead crickets and another one full of "BLOOD BALLS" that are used for catfish but I don't know if they are any good either.

Typically bass won't get a chance to eat the crickets. Everytime I have fished with crickets, the blue gill and other small fish get to them first. Now I have caught a few bass with crickets. You can cast a hook and bobber out and reel it in just over a dead log or stump. As the cricket and hook sink, sometimes the bass will hit it. Most of the bass that do hit the cricket will be in the 1 lb or less range.

I usually fish with live crickets though. Hook them thru the butt and out just behind the head. I will usually put about 2 to 3 crickets on the hook too.

Crickets are great to fish for smallies on small rivers/streams. I like floating down on one of those pontoon boats with a box of crickets and we just slay them.
