Archery?
Was just wondering if anyone here was into archery, maybe bow hunting and stuff. I used to like shooting around an old bowscout bow when i waws younger until I lost my arrows, and I've been feeling like arching lately. Just wondering if anyone had any tips or reccomendations as i cannot really find a good starting point/ bow. I don't want to buy a beginner bow that I would move from, because they are pretty expensive and i wouldn't want to waste money on a bow I would move from fairly quickly. Ideas? Thanks

i have a hoyt sensation camo. i havent measured the draw weight but i bench only 135 and it pretty stout to pull. i suggest a mechanical release but make sure you get the kind with the L release and not the kind that looks like pliers.
not this but this so that one side moves and the string dosent have to go around the lip on the other side. arrows, i get custom made arrows at a bow shop near here carbon fiber is all you need. get a good neon sight and not a cheepo pin sight.I would take a pic of my bow but its under my bed at the wall and i dont want to dig all of it out.. but my rooms gotta be cleaned out from winter junk soon so i'll take some pics then and its time to get in shape for deer hunting.. although i've never killed one, its fun to shoot.. |

I got an old Bear whitetail II compound that I would let you have pretty cheap. Its taking up space. I went through the archery phase. Its fun. I used to have an old skinned off basketball in my backyard in front of a couple hay bails - I could hit the basketball on command at 30 yds.

Hm, ok then thanks guys. I'll make sure to get an L-release. I bench pretty much the same as you, but wouldnt the pull be more deltoid usage?
and WTL, check your PMs thanks

This thread actually just motivated me to pull out my old bow and shoot it for the first time in a while. And come to think of it, a damn racoon keeps getting into my garbage at midnite - didnt want to alarm the neighbors with a gunshot....i think... i'm getting an idea....

have fun!
well i have achieved more bench press to 135 since i pulled the bow last so idk.. just to get prepared when you get it do a set of reps with your bow as if your workin out.. by pulling it.. both right handed and left.. but dont dry fire.. |

Hoyt Trykon 33" ATA 75Lb Draw weight Jim Fletcher3D release. Shoot Beeman ICS Hunter 400 arrows, feather not vanes. Thunderhead 100 Gr broadheads. I feel confident to shoot a deer up to 40 yds with a perfect shot. My avg. Shot is 10-15yds.... I like em close.

depends on where i am hunting to which bow i use.
in the fairly thick brush around this area. i use a bow tech ''black ice'' bow 63 pound setting. shooting 31'' easton axis apg 340 arrows with quick spin vanes. on this set up my broad head is a 125 grain nap he!!razor.. i use a cross hair sight. long for this bow is 20 yards.. mostly thick brush shooting thru tiny holes.. on the open flats of the coastal plain i use an old onidea eagle areo force set at 78 pounds shooting a 27" gold tip xt hunters and 5" quick spin vanes.sights are the infamus cobra cross hairs. broad head is the100 grain tight point shuttle. because you never get close to the deer on the coast most of my shots are in the 45-50 yard range but several inculding my personal best bow kill were more than 75 yards.. zooker

Cranky, not exactly. Try Rhomboids and middle trapezius. Posterior deltoid might start the motion depending on the position of the elbow. Supraspinatus (of the infamous rotator cuff) to stabilize the high elbow.

Not a doc but I play one on tv.
Degree in Health then another in Motor Integration (Exercise Science). Certified nationally and licensed by the VA Board of Medicine to work as an Athletic Trainer. Also can call myself a Exercise Physiologist (A.S.E.P.) due to the advanced degree. You better learn those S.I.T.S. muscles!!! Origins and insertions and don't forget the blood supply and nerves too. |

I love bow hunting more than fishing. I shoot a BowTech Allegiance. I'll post a picture of it when I get back Sunday from my tournament. Also a couple bow kills. I shoot 100 gr. Slick Trick broadheads. I use a Vital Gear single pin fiber optic site. Shoot Carbon Express Maxima Hunters with 2" Blazer vanes. The bow was chrono'd at 310 fps. I shoot it at 65# with a 30" draw. BowTech makes an awesome bow and you should take a look at them if your in the market for one. However... I would shoot several before you make a decision to buy one. Buy one that feels good to you!!!

very radical design for sure but man they are heavy -11 pounds- but unlike a cam bow they tend to shoot straighter and farther than anything made. i actually shoot 1" 5 shot groups out to about 40 yards with it.. it opens up at 50 yards to about 2-2.5" five shot groups..
it helps with the old cross hair sights. here is the reasons i use two bows.. this deer was taken at 73 yards-sorry bout the gore this one was just a tad over 20 FEET from me when i shot it.. nuff said zooker
