Biggest fish of the year!

To bad it's a carp...

Actually I was carp fishing, so I can't complain. It's also my first fish with the BPS Extreme reel that I got from fellow board member Ebbetsguy.

I took him on my heavy cranking rod with 20# Seaguar Red Label. He weight in a 5lb 10oz. I have seen much bigger ones taken from the lake where I got him, but I a not complaining...

Carp get a bad rap but they are great fighting fish, a lot of fun to catch. What did you catch him on?

Fun fish to catch, I threw my cast net on one that weight about 30lbs this summer, damn near pulled me off the front of the boat. The guys I was fishing with sure thought it was funny.

They sure are fun, and they get much bigger than bass, so it can be a nice thrill too. This one gave me a great run near the end and almost spooled me. My drag was way too light...

I was using dough balls. Not my favorite bait, but it's cheap and works...

They sell smoked carp in my grocery store. Its bony otherwise very good. Do you eat them?

No, I don't, but even if I did I took this guy out of a retention lake. It's also illegal to keep them here.
