Busted a nice rod
Very Angry
Busted the tip off of my Shimano Crucial removing it from the boat. This is a sweet rod and I was angry when I heard it go. I think it got caught in the new braid I just put on my toad rod. Also popped an insert to the third guide on a Loomis which is the same one that popped last time and I sent it back to be fixed. This time I'm going to get Gary at Fight Back Rodz to repair it correctly. Two rods down is a problem because one is for my chatterbait and the other is my floating worm/Senko rod and I'm fishing another tournament this weekend. I've got to check into Shimano's guarantee on the the Crucial and see what's covered. |

that crucial should have a lifetime warranty on it. Although, I guess it does depend on what you tell them happened to it.

I read the same thing about Shimano rods Big. They have a lifetime warrenty. You should be able to exchange it from the dealer you bought it from.

OUCH! sympathies from a guy who has broken more stuff, including my garage door this week, than I would ever admit.

I wish I could have said I busted the rod setting the hook on an 8 or a 10 but I can't. I looked up the "Limited Lifetime Warrenty" for Shimano and will be heading up to Gander Mt sometime soon to replace the rod if they have another to replace it with .
Got a Friday night this week but with the T-storms we've been getting every day it may not be worth fishing. My T-partner will be heading out of town for work so no tournament on Sunday. Anybody want to go fishing?? I may head down to the Chick River/Lake Sat to Sun after I get off work on Sat. |

I've had to get 3 Crucials replaced and it seems that fewer places are willing to do the over-the-counter thing. BPS and a local place said no, but Cabelas still does it. Worst case is you can send it back to Shimano and they will take care of it.

After I broke one of my St. Croix rods, I bought my next one from Gander Mountain. They have a 30-day no questions asked replacement plan, and I also bought a 1-year replacement plan for 10 bucks. Seeing how rough I am on gear, that's not too bad on a 90 dollar rod.

I'll continue to buy Shimano rods because of their lifetime warranty which most companies don't have. That and IMO, they are great quality rods that are cheaper than comparable rods. I've heard from a couple people that the Shimano Cumara rod (200-220) is between a G. Loomis IMX and GLX for less than the price of the IMX. This is also what they said on Tackle Tour.
Cabela's claims to be 100% customer service, so they should take it back. Although I haven't been completely happy with the service at Cabela's. BB

I broke the tip off my rod last year while trying to get my bait unhung from something right under the boat....it was all my fault, but my gut sank just the same when I felt it snap......I ended up just getting one of those Fuji tip repair kits from Walmart and glued a new tip on.....it wasn't a high dollar rod by any means, so this was kinda the cheap way to repair it,but it still works pretty good.

Went by G Mt today with the rod to see if they would replace it. They didn't have a single Crucial in stock and they wouldn't swap it out without the receipt. I'm sure the manager was thinking that he'd never see me again since I couldn't remember when I purchased the rod.
Now I've got to head home and call Shimano and figure out if I can work something out with them. But I decide to rummage through some old receipts first. I find four G Mt receipts from '07 before I find the one!!! I head back up, find the manager, and he gives it an inspection like he's secret service and I'm passing a bad $20. He offered to contact the other 110 stores to find a replacement or he offered me $136 in store credit. I suggested he call Shimano and get me a replacement if he can't find one at another store. We'll see what happens. |

$10 says you slam it in the door on the way out of Gander Mountain.

The rod made it home just fine. I've got it rigged up and ready to catch some fish on a floating worm or senko. I busted a tip once in my car. The tip slid over out the window and I rolled the window up (power windows). Now my 7' MH jig rod is a 6'10" H jig rod. |

Let's hope the folks at Gander don't remember you! Sorry about your luck though.
