Buying for the new fisher lady
My girlfriend took up fishing this year and loves to go with me. She used all my stuff this year but I am going to give her her own tackle for Christmas. Cabalas has a pink tackle bag and I need some ideas to fill it for her. Her favorite bait was a chatterbait so I am starting there. Any ideas what to buy for the starting fisher lady? She is using spinning set ups and doesn't want to try a bait caster.

A good book! Or a speaker of some sort for her phone.
My wife will go with me and she reads, lays on the back deck and gets some sun. As for gear, I would get her what you use. No need to give her a bunch of things just because they are cute. Go with what works for you. |

Nothing, and I mean NOTHING in my experience, gets a new angler's interest up as well and top water hits.
Original Rapalas. Floating, twitched, shallow running ... I agree with the ads, there's no way to fish it wrong. If she's fishing with spinning reels, then several 2 inch and several 5 inch Rapalas will work well. Tiny Torpedoes. Regular large ones are okay, but small ones will get vicious strikes from all sized fish. Zara Spooks. Topwater baits are pricey, which makes them excellent gift. People hate buying them for themselves ... getting them as gifts ... aaahhhh. |

Rattletraps and beetlespins are foolproof and catch fish. Crankbaits are another option.

I'd be sure to get her a couple 1/4 oz and 3/8 oz spinner baits. They are very easy for new anglers to use and they work. My wife loves fising with them. She also enjoys small crank baits, which are also easy peazy to fish with. Cast and retrieve.

Your friend may need a proper introduction to Mr. Yamamoto. Catching fish is fun, and fun is what will keep her interested. It is hard to beat the numbers of fish that are sometimes caught on the Senko. Oh, and it is very hard to fish it incorrectly. I do find that the fish like them better than squirrels, if you follow me.

I'm going to suggest she is perfectly happy using whatever tackle you bring... now, a sparkling diamond ring might get both of your minds off fishing!

One of these days I'll tie a ring on the end of her line when she isn't looking. Of course it won't be the real one. I don't want it in the belly of a bass.
