Staining the back porch.
What is best for the first application of stain for a year old treated porch? Or is there something else I should use?

The only deck I've done I power washed then applied Thompson's water seal. That was treated lumber, I did not stain it first. Check with your supplier for advice on stains and sealer for compatible products.

I have done the Thompson's Water Seal on my 30 year old back porch twice. Power washed it once and did more damage than the sun could do.
I have replaced about 6 boards in 30 years. My dad stained his and two years later had replace the whole deck. Then he painted it and five years later it rotted out. Keep it simple and seal it. They make this spray and wash cleaner that I have used on my other summer house deck and it just requires a spray and scrub. Then wash off with a hose. It looks great after a water seal now.

I bought a stain and seal product recommended by sales person. Stain is transparent. Looks great.
