Different soft plastic shapes have done well this year

Since I try different soft plastic shapes which catch most fish species - bass included, I figured I may as well share:

Satisfaction to catching fish on a bait you modified.

I was interested in changing jig and spinnerbait skirts after watching different fishing shows or reading BassMaster Magazine where different pros would suggest colors to use and jig weights. On-line there is an incredible site that sell any skirt material you could ever think of and I order about 15 different ones.

Also on-line, I found many sources for brush-style weed guard jigs in different weights and added different color skirts - same thing for spinnerbaits.

Then there was the question of what trailer to use other than the #11 Uncle Josh pork frog that did well for years. Plastic shapes started dominating the market after Uncle Josh went out of business and I found 4 that did as well as the pork trailer like this shape:


Of course before U.Josh went out of business I molded 3 sizes of their pork frog:

They even caught fish without a skirt and not just bass:


Back to weedless jigs. Heavier weights were suggested by the pros that won bass tournaments. I fish smaller rivers and shallower lakes and figured why not a 1/8 or 1/4oz.? Sure enough, they caught bass using a number of different color skirts.

It pays to investigate claims no matter the source and find out what bass will bite in your lake.

Confidence is key. I have never been as confident in jigs as other baits. Due to that I have fished jigs very little. Beetle spins, Road Runners and other spinner type jigs I have used extensively.

I forgot to mention that most of the lures in the first post came from melting together the parts from two different soft plastic lures using a flame.
French Fry stick lure segments used as lure bodies and a variety of tails have been used to produce various action/profiles that catch all species including this white sucker:


and 7 lb catfish:


It's not that many other lures don't catch fish, but light jig lures can be worked slower than most, same as the plastic worm or stick used various ways. Plus, lure shape variety is only limited by the imagination vs using the same ol lures over and over resulting on more lure bought.

When I was a kid money was tough to come by. We would fish with Creme worms. We started melting them back together when they were worn out. That was in the 60's.

That's always been a great way to extend the life of soft plastics.
