Re: Being Magnanimous in Victory
Being ever-modest and gracious, and with great admiration for the graduates, traditions, etc., of last night's worthy opponent ('cept for, according to their own fans, {See: TexAgs.com} their nutless coach,) I just want to quietly and proudly say...
BOOMER SOONER!!! and...whew! That was a close one! One of the most exciting finishes on record. A true nail-biter. Thank God for Bob Stoop's cannonball-sized nertz and Sooner Magic. F.Rod A Sooner born and a Sooner Bred. (And when I die I'll be a Sooner dead!) |

Not to mention the fact that Fran is a dumbass and put 12 guys on the field for the last defensive play.

Yes, the land thieves outscored my beloved Aggies due to some of the worst coaching decisions I have ever seen. But, I tip my maroon hat to them on the win.

For Flyrod, there is one thing that's sad,
Alas, he ain't a sooner GRAD! [/quote] Well, that's a tragedy for ANYONE who isn't, right? But as Reb well knows, I DO have a very, very good reason to be a Sooner Fan. I admit that I'm a graduate of a small college...the oldest west of the Mississippi...and one which, when I graduated, was a military-oriented school with a rich tradition. In fact, this is a certain future president and great Army leader when he was a 2d Lt moonlighting as head football coach at my alma mater, 1916. http://www.stmarytx.edu/heritageclub...ball_w_ike.jpg Second row from the top, dead center...2Lt D.D. Eisenhower. The main reason for NOT attending OU was the lucrative trumpet scholarship offered by Saint Mary's v. the cost of out-of-state tuition at OU. Even with the offer they made, it would have been too pricey. Besides, there was this "girl I left behind me" at my high school. I wanted to stick close...and it was worth it So much a military school was St.M.U. in those days that we were referred to by some as "The Pope's West Point"...and they even let this Lutheran heretic in! Nearly a thousand cadets, organized as Division Artillery, Batteries instead of Companies, (though I chose Armor upon commissioning) and a kick-*** 100 member ROTC Band, most of whom were Music Majors (and ALL played, rather than march to "fill in the blanks".) We had a battery of 105mm Howitzers, the transport therefor, and for decades the Redlegs from St. M's were renowned in the Army for being "fire mission ready" upon graduation. The band used to lead the Queen's Float in the famed Fiesta Flambeau parade and the crowd went nuts when we approached the reviewing stand to the opening notes of the grand march from the opera "Aida", trumpets sounding the famous "fanfare". The glory days are gone now, the U. having caved to leftist commies in 1970 (when I was in Vietnam) and deemphasizing ROTC. That's why they don't get one red cent from me. I now know St. M's as The University of Northern Mexico "Marxism and Liberal Bull**** Taught Here. Press 1 for Eengleesh." So many sons of the school gave their lives for America and Freedom, and this is their reward. FlyRod |

Don't encourage 'im, fer chrissake
If they (the Aggies) don't beat YooTee I'll have to find another fishin' partner for at least a month. And, I unashamedly admit, I hope they DO stomp the bejeebus outta the Whorns. Now, this started as a mannerly and, yes, magnanimous (heh!) thread. Let it fade from memory having accomplished, however narrowly, that objective. Let us move on to other, more pertinent, matters. For example, let us join hand and heart in hating The Sand Aggies of Texiz Tek. AKA The Red Roaches. Can I get an "Amen"? FR |
