Shaky head baits other than worms
I am relatively new to shaky head fishing.* I am curious if any of you use anything but a worm on the shaky head? I searched for this topic in the forum and saw some threads that addressed this in a roundabout way.* I am specifically curious about craw style baits and beaver style baits?* Anyone use large profile soft plastics on heavier (1/2 oz) shaky heads?
I am very excited to try this technique and wondered what others think of this style of using a shaky head. |

I love to fish a beaver style bait on a 1/4 oz. Spot Remover Pro Model head. I prefer a 3 inch Big Bite Baits Yo Mamma. A buddy of mine makes an ultimate stand up jighead which makes a bait stand straight up like none other. Right now he only he has 1/2 oz. but is working on a 1/4 and 3/8 oz. as well Check them out and order some here....

Only one way to find out. Rig up and throw it. Seems to me something like a Yum crawbug on a bigger shakey head jighead would be deadly.

There is no limit to what you can put on the heads, and there is no limit to the different styles of heads out there that fall into this category (shakey head, spot remover, spot sticker, Giggy Head, etc). Experimentation is the essence of bassfishing and that is something the group of people on this site do VERY well! I have personally fished everything from finesse worms to BAby Brush Hogs on them and caught fish on almost everything.

There really are no rules when it comes to what baits to use with a technique like this. The same goes for the Dropshot, C-rig, etc.
The majority of the time I use a Strike King Elaztech Finesse Worm (they float VERY well and are very durable). But there are other times when I use other baits. I've fished Powerbait Chigger Craws, Lizards, Super Flukes and even tubes on a shaky head jig. Also, don't be afraid to supersize. Use a bigger head with a big 10" curly tail worm. BB

Lizards look pretty sweet on a shakey head.

This is absolute dynamite for the smallmouth in the small river right down my street.

I shakey head almost every soft bait possible, only problem is the hook size, most shakey heads come with too small hooks to rig the larger baits so to solve that problem I pour my own.

I was turned on to using a beaver on my shaky head at Ky Lake this spring by a local guy. Watermelon red flake was the ticket... Only thing that produced quality fish all week.

One time I was about to head out on a river trip when I ran out of tube jig heads. I popped a shaky head inside and of it and it worked very nicely. Kind of gave it an eratic action when jerked and when it was jigged it had a nice glide to it. Give it a try it worked for me and I got some. By the way it was a 3.5" coffee tube.

I like fishing grubs on shakey heads....use 3 to 5 inch ones. Can be very productive when the bite is very lite. Haven't thought of using beavers this way but I'll definitely give it a try.
