Default Hooks

Getin tired of the price of hooks. So here's the question.....I use mainly gama's excellant hook, cant complain at all about them except the price. Has anyone tried another and found them to be as good as gammy's without the price and/or does anyone know where you can buy bulk hooks at decent prices. I mean lets face it at 5.39 for 5 or 6 of them is just abit pricey. The waters I fish are unforgiving and the average day costs me with losing the hook, tungsten weight, and plastics probably $20. People laugh when you standin in the boat using a $300 rod and reel and trying to hit a spot so far back in the sh@@ that a snake needs a road map,but thats bass fishin at its best.

At wal-mart they have red lazer sharp hooks for 1.97 for five. They are thin wire hooks so great for smaller baits and finesse!

Ya used to be able to buy hooks in bulk in the back of fishing catalogs, back then it was either aberdine or straight hooks.
I pay 2.69 for a pack of gammys 3/0 offset here

gammy's either super braid or glock. depending on the bait. every thing from 2/0-6/0. 25 packs are $13. i never use tungstun weights unless i am in a tourny $1.50 a bullet gets VERY pricy when you fish docks..

laser you know i even BUY my own bullets..

Just bought a pak of Gammy's today for $3.99. I like them the best. Lazer are good too. The eagle Claw Lazer are good too. They cost less then the Gammy's. BPS has gammy EWG red for $2.69 for 5 and $9 or $10 for 25 paks.

Good luck, let me know what you come up with.I do have some of Hookerz tackle hooks to try as well. They look real good, are sharp which is a start. I will let you know this summer which won't do you any good if your like me , you won't wait long. I really like the Mustad Ultra lock 38105BLN in 3/0 for tube baits.Other than that I use Daiichi, or Owner hooks as a rule. P N J

Default Fossil Hooks

I know I'm an old fart now. I still have in excess of 2 bulk packs of blue, straight shank, double barbed Mustad "worm" hooks that I bought about 10 years ago. I got some of the high tech jobbies, mostly as gifts from less cheap friends and relatives, but I have faith in my fossil hooks in sizes 1 and 1/0.

A bulk pack is a clear, reusable hard plastic box holding 100 hooks. I haven't seen these old hooks in most tackle stores lately. Perhaps higher profit on the high tech jobs might be to blame.

The matzuo hooks at walmart are good. They come in black packaging and are similar in style to gamakatzus.

eagle claw are not worth a dam...quality hooks are never cheap. never buy cheap hooks gammy's or mustad are a good hook. like the mustad trebles my self. the matzu hook is a decent hook for a cheaper hook but bends fairly easily. best design i have seen in a hook for lizards just wish it was heavier wire hook-something like a super braid hook.

I have used Gama's since back in the mid 80 when we had to order them in bulk. I will say this. They are not as sharp as they were then but are still a great hook. The only other hooks that I have found close are the Owners.Even if they go to $6.00 I will still buy them.

Onlyculprits, I also have some of the old style straight shank form way back also. Somewhere we were sold on the idea that the offset hooks were the way to go. The straight shanks get a better hook set and the old ones are sharper. They just dont hold the worm as well. Fish2win

Zook is correct about the matzu hook bending a little easier than the gammys. Its just a lighter hook thats good if you are feeling kinda cheap.

I'm like zook on the matzuo'z. Very sharp but I have had someof them bend at the wrong time. Oh well gonna put in a few more hours next week and stock up on the gammy's.

I use Owner's or Gammy "Superline" hooks. They stay sharp, and rarely bend. They are pricey, but as already stated, qua;ity out weighs price. There isn't many things more important than your hook and line, when fishing. I've tried the Hookerz, and they are good hooks, and comparable to the regular gammys. Now when I was in Heaven(that's Bass Pro Shops for those wannabe bassaholics) they did have 25-50 packs of the gammy superlines, which I of course bought. Good hooks are easy to find, GREAT hooks are what I keep using

By the way, hows the Back? Hope you're out fishing right now.
