Default Spiderwire

I broke down and purchased some spiderwire at our new Bass Pro Shops that opened yesturday. I am using a Zebco Omega spincasting reel for now and the spiderwire is just not working out. It won't cast or it locks up in the middle of a cast. I know this is a pretty much a rooky reel, but it's waht I have? I am only able to get out and fish a few weeks out of the year. (work, kids, soccer coach etc.) Is this common for this type of reel?? Please advise. What line should I be using? Mostly fish for trout or bass. (1lb to 5lb range)

I've never used Spiderwire on a spincast reel myself. But I have used spincasting equipment many times before I connverted to vasting gear, and I always did well using a good quality mono or copoly line. Thre are many good brands now days. I prefer Silver Thread and TrileneXL myself. OHHHH, now I've done it and gone and opened the favorite mono line can of worms box. LOL Anyways, check to see what your reel is rated for. I would think 12 pound test would be a good all pourpose line. I would definately stay away from the new Pline Evolution line. I loaded up on that stuff this spring. BIG mistake!!!

You didn't mention what kind of spiderwire. They make mono and braid. If you are using their braid, I would choose the strength whose diameter matches the mono you normally use. Then it should work just fine.

Keithdog,

Sorry you had problems with Evo. I have found the line (I use 12# test) to have superb castibility and good abrasion resistance. I use it on a casting reel. Because it is made from nylon, this line is going to have memor up the ying yang and this is the ugliest trait it has. Memory with a spinning reel bothers me, but on a casting reel it does not. What didn't you like about it?

Welcome to the forum!

I think I'd go back to mono. The nature of that kind of reel-it uses teeth to pick up the line-doesn't lend itself well to braid. It works better on a spinning or baitcast reel.

Ugh...respooled one of my zebco spincast reels with this crap and its the worse line i've ever used. It feels is heavy and tangles up all the time. Even reeling it I can feel the weight

I hate this line too
