Default bank drop shottin'

i fish alot from the banks at small ponds; and i have been told that drop shotting can be done fom the banks with alot of success. my question is when to use a dropshot? where? what baits to use on the rig? and how should i use the rig? thanks for the help.

YES! I discovered this myself. This is how I learned to use a dropshot rig. Whenever I get the chance to go to a pond, I rig my spinning rod with a dropshot rig. I like sight fishing with it. If the bass are finicky, I go to a 2 inch pink/purple Roboworm fish thingy.(not sure what the name is)

Here are allllll of the details when I'm dropshotting from the bank at a pond:

-6'6" Medium Heavy Ugly Stick <--- The only spinning rod I currently have

-#6-8 P-Line Floroclear

-Baits:
-Riverside Plastics Ribbed Worm/Curly Tail
-Zoom Trick Worm Finesse
-Any other soft plastic.
(If you want to get creative, you can use a jerkbait or other hardbait.)

-Hook: Gamakatsu 2/0 Finesse Wide Gap Hook

-Rig: Right through the head.

-Retrieve: I don't move the weight. I lift my rod until the line gets tight, then I lower the rod so there is slack line and then I lift it again. Repeat.

-Notes: Don't be afraid to let them hold onto it for a second or two. It's scented soft plastic. They will keep it in their mouths.

-Hookset: Reel down untill the rod loads and in a smooth motion, yank the rod back. DO NOT set the hook like you would with a texas rig. Don't snap set the hook with slack line.

-When: I use it when I'm sight fishing. It's not such an intimidating bait to the bass, and taking a small dropshot plastic isn't as big of a deal to the bass as taking a big ole' lizard or some other texas rigged soft plastic. I know you're at a pond, but I'll add this part anyways : Instead of flippin' a jig or texas rig at docks, I'll go with a dropshot sometimes. Some days they just don't want big baits.

-Weight: I use whatever will hold the bait in place. If it's windy, go with a bigger weight. Split shot weights work fine, but I like dropshot weights.

That's all I can think of for now.
Good luck.
Sorry for the sloppy post- I'm in a rush.

Joolz, I'm impressed. You are beginning to sound like you know what you are talking about.

When and Where to drop shot?
Anytime, anywhere. I am shorebound myself and the DS rig has accounted for 100% of all fish caught this season.

Baits
Roboworms are a good choice. Any bait with a good action is a fair candidate.

How to work it?
Check out the expert articles and scroll the the Drop Shot articles at www.bassdozer.com

I wrote a little piece about drop shotting based on my personal experience this season. If you are interested in it, PM me and I can send you a word version of it.

Effectiveness of drop shotting from the shore. No boat required!
