either swim it in open water, or throw on a mat of vegetation, and jiggle it a few times to get the mat to move, then reel in about a couple of inches up to a foot and rest it again, when the bass finds it they explode through the mat, so wait a few seconds until you feel weight till you set the hook

yes a 4/0 or 5/0 is recommended...plus use a heavy rod and reel, with heavy line or braid.

no the toad it self weighs like 3/4 of an ounce. with just the hook you can cast it quite a good ways..besides the nasty i fish the weight would keep you hung up all the time..

think about it.. ever see a real frog sitting in deep water?? frogs have a light skin and fragile bone struture..water pressure would crush them like a pop can..a frog has to breath air..so a surface to about 3 feet down is as far as they would get..

to only add to jb statement..
heavy action rod, heavy braid,7 foot rod is almost a must have.you will need the longer rod to get a longer pull on hook set you have to get the fish up and going where you want him VERY quickly..trust me i have had big bass burrow up in hydrilla and get off..

That's how you rig it.
