Default Striper no Striping

So I have never really fished for Stripe or Hybrids before. When I was a kid we camped on the Tennessee river every year and sometimes we would come up on a Stripe Boil and catch a bunch, but I have never Trolled or Jigged for stripe. I have a pretty good depth finder on my boat should I cruise around and look for them deep and just jig a spoon up and down?

I bought this thing that is supposed to make whatever I Connect to it dive to specified depths...Like 20-30-40 depending what hole I connect the swivel too. So I thought I might put a Crankbait on hit and troll around with a D22 on it or something. Any tips would be appreciated. We are going to lake Martin for the whole week and it is a very Deep and clear lake. And from what I hear great stripe fishing!

it is rare when inland striper will go deeper than 40 feet.. most are in the 20 foot range.. evenings stripers start to herd bait fish-shad - and will ambush them in the shallows.. they almost always used the same spot..top water baits are killer..

early feburary here striper's make an spawning run..they bite like mad when this happens..
hybrids also run in the same schools..
