Apparently the leader was fishing shallow and nobody else was fishing in his area. See if that changes.

Skeeter's right...they're launching out of Ingalls harbor in Decatur, which is the opposite end of Wheeler from where we were. I did recognize a power plant or factory in the background of one of the pictures. We passed it on Saturday on the way up to Elk River in search of a mythical pad field that we never found.

John, I wonder if you shared a lil secret info with KVD regarding that tree and a crawfish colored crank, maybe he would reward you in some way??? Like maybe a brand new Quantum setup??? lol

Thats champion paper mill, or it might be called international now, but its a paper mill. Then after that you see the nuke plant that got shut down by the tornado. Then a few miles further and you are in decatur.

Wait, somebody had you in the elk river claiming there were pads? Boy they must have saw you coming. I wish you would have told me, I've never seen a pad in the elk in 20 years.

You show KVD that tree, and he will reward you by shattering your confidence after he pulls 26 pounds off of it.

I'd like to know what techniques the leaders are using. I'd bet there are several they are using accross the board.

I looked at some of the day two photos and KVD did part of his on the trademark Crankbait, but also through ribbontail worms on C-rig

I had an idea the c rig would come into play there and I don't know why I didn't try it myself when I was there. So many things I've thought about in retrospect. With the lake lacking much of any vegitation, bottom structure and composition will come into play big time.

Theres a good bit more vegetation and some underwater stuff down towards decatur.

A split shot rig is a great bait for the area we were in.

Most are fishing the main lake. I didn't do any main lake fishing - which is probably why I didn't catch any big fish. Keith, we did find a lot of pads in Spring Cr, across the lake from Elk. Problem was they didn't hold any big fish, only dinks.

I notice the weights are up from what everyone was pulling that week at the g2g. I think part of the problem was the timing, late spawn to post spawn can suck. Perhaps for the next get together yall should consider putting it during the summer pattern.

Was the water pretty shallow where those pads were Bruce? I really couldn't get over the lack of vegitation once off the main lake. That really kind of threw me as every lake I've ever fished has had plenty of vegitation. If I went back to Wheeler tomorrow my approach would be very different.

I think your right on Billy. Plus I know that when the locusts hatched around here, fishing was awfull for a couple weeks. And since they were already in full hatch mode before we all arrived, that probably didn't help matters.
