Default Reel size

Just getting into fishing with some family and looking for some advice on reel sizes.

The rod i got is this one, it was on sale for $20.

http://www.basspro.com/Bass-Pro-Shop...44306/-1028356

6'6" MH

The reel i got is the Pflueger President XT 6730 with 8lb line (The free stuff from BPS). They where out of the 35 that i wanted but the salesman said it would be more than adequate for what i am doing.

I live in Iowa so theres some decent fishing around here and we have no grand plans on going north yet. Was the salesmen right when he said this would be more than adequate?

Caught a couple smaller bass (13" and 10" i dont own a scale yet) on my first run with it and it went smooth.

My other question is if it will work for me what line? Someone suggested 20lb braid but i dont want to invest in expensive line without knowing.

Yes. It will work. I have one that size and a couple of the 35's. If you are just getting started go with an 8-10 lb mono. It will work great for you. You don't need to invest in 6 different lines with low stretch and less memory and blah blah blah.....

Good luck!

Pflueger uses a different system for determining the size of their reels. Their size 30 or 35 is equivalent to most brands' 2000 sized reels and is plenty big enough for many uses including sunfish and bass fishing.
