Best way with rapala

what do you find to be the best way of using a rapala?

There are so many kinds of rapalas. Clarification on which type of rapala lure you had in mind would be helpful.

with island here.. rapala has 30+ differant types.25+differant shapes.12+ differant diving ranges,and about 50 differant colors..

so i say more info needed..

its about a 4 inches and its silver all over but it has a black stripe across is back...caught a one pound bass on it last night hah

Generally speaking with all crankbaits using a method of reeling and then pausing, helps the odds of getting a strike. Also try to bump into objects like fallen timbers, the crankbait deflecting off objects often will get a strike.
When you get a bass cranking, take note to depth and location and what you where doing in your presentation, and next time try to replicate that.

could be the black and crome rapala version of the rattletrap, I'm not sure if they make a #5 or 7 in chrome,

FYI,

When fishing timber, squared billed cranks that float are preferred. And when fishing grass, a round billed crank is better. The squared bill allows for more bounce/richocheting off the timber. Plus the floatation allows it to rise up after you bump some wood to go over it. The rounded bill has less resistance in the weeds, ergo being some help on that.

Excellant Advise Lizards,
Plus before hand you have to grow big 'nuff "nads" to throw a crankbait
directly in the heart of a fallen tree.
Even when you do get hung up, you learn about hitting objects and letting it deflect off stuff or float up, plus when to stop reeling not to get hung up.
You'll catch more fish in the tree than avoiding a hangup by casting around
structure.

Yep, the original floating rapala minnow for sure.

This is a very versatile bait. You can fish it like any other crankbait with regard to the cranking and pausing and all of the variations inbetween as mentioned earlier.

The bait could also be worked as a top water bait (like a popper)with twitches that make it sink and pauses that cause it to rise. Throwing in a little dead-sticking (ie, let it sit, don't give it any action) to mix is also a good option.

Another method that many to try is to carolina rig it with a 1/8-1/4 oz weight. My first bass ever was caught this way when I was a newbie. I didn't know it was a carolina rig at the time. I rigged it that way because I was trying to figure out a way to make farther casts with 10# line. Like I said, I was a newbie.

A long enough leader will keep it off the bottom for you and the weight will keep it in the bass' visual range if they're hugging the bottom.

In addition, this lure catches a wide variety of fish and is not exclusive to catching only bass.

Heck, an F-5 silver Rap works great up here in Ohio for nailing the Steelhead in the spring.
