Can't help you with fishing in NJ, but the spawn is dependent on water temperature. At 50 and up they start moving to the beds-prespawn-and at 60 or so they move up on the beds. Once it hits 70 it is pretty much over.

Are you insinuating I'm long winded, WSA?

Sometimes a short answer is all that is needed.

crx,
I live as far north as you, and I can garuntee the spawn is over, you may be experiencing a lag in the bite until they get back in the biting mode.
Try fishing the first ledge or depth change at what ever pond you are hitting.
It may only be a dif. of fishing the 5-7 foot range instead of beating the banks in 1-3 ft of water.

I would never say you are long-winded Reb.......I would prefer to say you are thorough in your answers.

spawn should be done, here in ohio the summer pattern is on. post spwan is all ready over. as far as best season or pattern to catch them, you have to figure that out, go out and fish them all, see what seems to work for you. for me it seems to be summer pattern. probelly is for everone, but maybe some fall pattern lovers.

Actually, I have still found a fair number of females still with eggs over the past week or so here in NE Ohio... and strangely in the smaller ponds.

And Spawning is the time in which the big fish are busy making little fish...
