Default Anybody as long as they beat Obama!

"Anybody as long as they beat Obama!"

I've been hearing this from people a lot lately and it really scares me. I believe this is part of what got us in the mess we are in, and this same mentality got Obama elected. I truly believe Hillary would be prez now if people hadn't been afraid she couldn't win, so they went with who they thought could. I personally would have picked Clinton over Mccain and Obama.

While I totally agree that Obama must go. I think we need to get away from the "Get someone who can beat him" mentality and actually vote for someone with some substance and might actually be good for the country. But then, anyone with any substance and good ideas won't run because we've let our elections become more like circuses running "who's the biggest clown" contests than elections to actually put leaders in office.

This is just my little rant and opinion.

Along this line, should look at Paul Ryan's speech at CPAC yesterday, not a ringing indorsement of the GOP field...All I can say is good luck, better just concentrate on trying to take the Senate.

The two party system we currently employ is nothing more than a dick measuring contest with the media holding the measuring tape.

Way too many candidates who "WANT" to be president... not any that "NEED" to be president.

Come November I won't be voting for Obama or Romney, but for Ron Paul... mainly because I think he's the most viable candidate to actually change something in this country and not just talk about it...

Why are so many people voting for Romney anyways??? the man is motivated by power and personal greed... why the hell would we want him in office... just because he can beat obama??? Worst political slogan ever IMO...

There's sure nuff a lot of things I'd like to change about the way we elect people. But as long as things are the way they are, this is what we are going to get. Simply because there's no way for a honest candidate, who really wants to do some good, to come up with the money to run on equal footing with the party backed crooks of these parties. I long for the day people get their heads out their butt and try a third party/independent. If nothing else, it'd be a change.

Gotta get rid of the $! The only way to do that is with a constitutional amendment, to overturn citizens united. Good luck with that .

Ill be doing an article on citizens united and campaign finance later this year.

I agree with all the posts in this thread up until dogmatic. Trying to get rid of the money is a fool's errand.

Hmmm...and what's the point in doing an article on citizens united if you don't think its a problem? Public financing of elections, and free airwaves is the only way to take our elections back from the corporate overloads, and oligarchs.

I'd like to get rid of the party system completely. People will often automatically write off a canidate based on party affiliation. If there were no political partys, then people would be more likely to actually base an oppinion on the candidates voting record and what they say and what they have accomplished. And contributions wouold have to be made to the individual candidates instead of their party. This would go a long way towards accountability.

Its a rigorous writing assignment for credit. It will focus on cases dealing with free speech and campaign finance. Citizens united being one of the landmark cases.

We the people haved the power to effect change, why we continue to sit idly by when we know there is something terribly wrong in this country makes me wonder, do the people really want change?

I agree with this comment!
Niether party really follows thier OWN beliefs unless it fits thier OWN wants! Democratics make decisions that seem like Repubician decisions and vice versa. Seeing they DON"T stick to thier own policies thier is no value to a two party system other than MONEY.
Heres an example:
Tea Party And Oath Keepers MIA 2000-2008

Leftneck Jesus
I have had one underlying question since the inception of the Tea Party, Oath Keepers, and the resurgence of the militia movements; where were they from 2000-2008? This seems to be a legitimate question that nobody within the movements can or wants to answer.
This is not (as some might characterize) an attempt to call anyone who does not like president Obama or his policies a racist. Although there is little doubt that there are racist members of all of the groups in question (based on member comments on websites, signs at rallies, and the sudden need to protect the constitution from the very things the prior administration did at will) I believe Barack Obama happens to be the perfect storm of a “liberal”, a democrat, and a black guy.
For some reason the groups did not find it necessary to form when King Dubya was playing cowboy with the constitution that they claim to hold so dear. Here is a short reminder of Bush-era accomplishments that did not trouble the Tea Party, Oath Keepers, or militia-necks:
1. Patriot Act
Violated 1st and 4th Amendments of the U.S. Constitution and was found to be unconstitutional in court. Unconstitutional-oh no here comes the Tea Party?
2. Military Commisions Act of 2006
Supreme Court ruled it an unconstitutional encroachment of habeas corpus rights. Here comes the Oath Keepers?
3. NSA Warrantless Surveillance
Executive order to spy without a warrant! This is number 2 on the Oath Keepers “Orders We Will Not Obey” list. Apparently it was an order they would obey during the Bush administration?
4. Authorization for use of Military Force Against Terrorists (AUMF)
Bush issued a Presidential Military Order to detain so called enemy combatants. This is number 3 on the Oath Keepers “Orders We Will Not Obey”.
5. Unfunded Wars in Iraq and Afghanistan
Bush and the Republicans did not include the $1 Trillion dollar costs of the wars under the military budget but instead tried to hide the costs in supplemental funding bills. That is $1 Trillion BORROWED dollars for all of the people crying about deficits for healthcare.
6. Medicare Prescription Drug Benefit
Socialized Medicine? Entitlement? Projected cost of $550 Billion! The year was 2003 and the Tea Party was…?
7. 2002 Farm Bill Subsidies
The total was $170 Billion over ten years (twice the cost of your tax dollars than any other farm bill in history). The year was 2002…7 full years before this would be considered socialism by the Tea Party.
8. No Child Left Behind
The American Association of School Administrators (AASA) opposed the legislation because of…wait for it… its expansion of the federal government’s role in education. The AASA had an issue with the expansion of government but the Tea Party was okay with it.
9. Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP)
Signed into law by President GEORGE W. BUSH on October 3, 2008. Surely the Tea Party formed the very next day-hahahahaha? I would be willing to bet the lot that a majority of Tea Party members think Obama signed TARP. Seriously-how much do you want to lose?
10. John Yoo (DOJ Office of Legal Counsel-GWB 2001-2003)
Yoo helped develop the legal justification for the detention of enemy combatants, torture, the policy declaring that the president is not bound by the war crimes act, and for warrantless wiretapping. Mr. Yoo seemingly violated the Oath Keepers “Orders We Will Not Obey” numbers 2, 3, 4, 7, and 10. Surely the Oath Keepers formed right after Mr. Yoo’s work surfaced-hahahahaha?
I’m sure I could go to 20, 30, or 40 but I think the 10 examples above are enough to prove my point and to help call into question the timing of the Tea Party, Oath Keepers, etc. Where were they during the signing of the socialized Farm Bill? Why did John Yoo not send them running to recite their oath to the constitution? Why didn’t the militia-necks stage mock exercises and rallies when Bush signed the Patriot Act? Any single example above should be enough to trump anything the Obama administration has done so far or even dreamed of doing (off in their underground socialist Mosque-of course!).
Timing is everything-it looks like the democrats will get crushed in a couple of weeks and we will see if these movements stay true to their so-called principles (as their candidates takeover) or if like the militia movements from the Clinton years-they silently go back home until the next “liberal” is selected?
Peace be with you,
Leftneck Jesus

I have to STRESS that I am in no way a believer in any party (except the one you folks are planning at the Hollow) and I don't even believe alot from the above 'stolen' blog. I just as easy could put a Rebulican slant (pretty obvious that the post is slanted) but for example purposes it seemed to fit. So PLEASE don't LABEL ME!
I originally sent this to my brother who is not just a Republican Party believer but feels the Unions are the root of all bad things in American History since the industrial revolution. This was in response to the folks reciting oaths on the Floor before they speak. I think following one Oath should suffice and should be given or recited by all government and the Peoples employees (politicians) regardless of party affiliation.

Everyone falling a sleep yet?
Na I'm done. I just enjoy being the DEVIL I guess.
Hey quarter stick, thanks for making ALL of us think a little!
At this point in time the only value of a party system is so a person doesn't have to THINK for THEMSELVES.

Hopefully I've pissed off everyone EQUALLY!

Quit being so dogmatic.

Since Im going to be spending so much time on this issue, I wont discuss citizens u with you right now. If you want to talk later, we can. The reason being sometimes you really have to immerse yourself in a case to understand all the various issues. Relying on the media to understand these things sometime produces misunderstandings.

As far as the republican candidates who are running and have a chance.. I like Ron Paul. Otherwise Buddy Roamer if he had a chance.

But I completely agree with you on booting the "Anyone but Obama" mentality.

Just heard on the news today that BO has decided to flip flop and embrace the whole unlimited campaign contribution/pac deal. Imagine that...I remember not long ago that his position was that CI was going to destroy democracy?
