Default Prop suggestions 1995 150 Johnson Faststrike

Buddy just bought a rig with a Stainless Raker prop on the 1995 150 Johnson Fastrike. I have no idea the pitch or diameter. The prop has a couple subtle folds in it and he was thinking of getting a new one and making the current prop his spare. I'm looking for recommendations for him regarding:

Prop brand
Pitch
Diameter

Thanks for any input.

It is very difficult to figure out what prop to buy. My advice would be to try and find a dealer that is willing to let you try different pitches because they vary so much.

If I had to guess I would say a 21 pitch but that would be a estimate.

Hey Mike thanks. I realize I didn't included enough info. regarding type of boat, performance specs. currently, etc.

It currently runs well and a duplicate prop in better condition would be just fine. I'll have to remove the prop and look for the specs. myself that are stamped on there. Then go shopping. Much appreciated for the response.

WIBASS,
I would seriously consider contacting D.A.H. PRO-PELLERS in Burlington, Wi. 262-534-4440 and talk to John about that prop. He can probably rebuild the old prop for about 1/3 the price of a new one. I can tell you that he tweaks props to get the last ounce of performance for you. You could buy an aluminum prop for a spare with the savings and still have money left.

I am called cheap at times but the Raker is best prop out there for a 150 Fast Strike. Experiance.. Get it fixed and tuned. Buy an aluminum replacement prop and a floating wrench Tape an extra key to the wrench.

And hope u never have to use it.

Just to update you guys on my partners prop. He did take it in to get it "worked on" and it looks 10x better than it had.

He is still dead set on getting a spare at a reasonable price. The specs on the current raker prop are 14 1/2 x 24. He's pleased with the performance so he'll be wanting to get another. When going to iboats.com and typing in the year and model of the boat, the website offers suggested props. I've gone in to confirm this and if you put in 24 pitch prop it gives a few different diameters such as 15 1/8 for a Scorpion 3 bladed prop, Stilleto 13 3/4 for a four bladed prop, etc.

My question is, does the diameter matter in the fit? Also, what is the difference between 3 blade vs. 4 blade in performance?

Thanks again guys.

4 blade loses top end but gets better hole shot over a 3 blade..if he is happy with a 14.5 x 24p prop any prop in the 14" range will do-as long as it clears-going over big -the 15+"-will lower your rpm's an get pretty bad performance on most hulls.. the smaller the prop the higher the rpm at wot...

Thanks Zook

So "in theory" a 14 1/4 x 24 would give you more rpm's therefore higher top end? Or will it just run higher with the same top end.

maybe 100 more rpm.. but thats the only true differance.. once ya get a prop ya like. spend the money to get it vented have it blue printed it will be even better..sounds like alot but worth it in the long run..
