Default The "Sexy Shad"

Well now that the "Sexy Shad" color by Strike King has been out for a couple of years, what is everybody's take on it. (Or another companies "Sexy Shad" color) I have found it to be a fish catching color, but it has not been that miracle go-to color for me. Anybody else liking, disliking, the sexy shad color?

Ryan

I've caught fish on it, but like you said, not nearly my go-to color.

I've used it on cranks with some success. I've got multiple brands, including Strike King, Bandit, and Bomber.

It also makes a good spinnerbait color and I find SK's sexy shad spinnerbaits better tha other brands' sexy shad.

I'd also like to try a jerkbait or two in it when spring rolls around.

It is a good color in some fishing areas. I believe the coloration works well where sunfish like bluegill are the main forage.

Well, I've never used a Sexy Shad crank. However, some guy in Ohio just sold me one, so I'll let you know next Spring.

I've caught a few fish on a shallow crank, but that's the only thing I have in that color. I've caught more with the same crank in a regular shad color than sexy shad.

If it were a "miracle" color ( if such thing exists ) all manufacturers and all fishermen would have it.

I've caught a few in muddy and clear water with a crank. Recently I've been using a weedless spoon in that color and it works also.

Lately it has been my goto Robo worm for dropshot. I have caught fish off that color crank as well, but no more or less than an other color.

The Major swears by the Red Eye in Sexy. He's caught a lot of fish on it but then he fishes it all the time. The 4S is a nice crankbait in Sexy too. It does well. I've caught a few fish on the Series 4 but it's not my best bait.
Bandit makes a similar color. LC has one similar also. My Fat CB BDS 2 catches quality fish in Chart/Shad.

I have had some luck with it. Around here it mimmicks the forage very well. I have a couple of 2-4 pound large mouths and a couple over 4 pounds on the different types. Not just the crank bait but the spinner bait and the top water.

It works just as well as any other color. My advice would just be match the hatch and fish what YOU are comfortable with.

I use the color quite a bit, mainly on the Red Eye Shad. I mark up the belly with an orange marker to match the bluegills and pumpkinseeds. Sometimes a few green marks on the sides too.

I don't think I have ever caught a fish on that color. I know a lot of guys that like them, and I have been throwing a Pointer 78DD in it recently, but it doesn't seem to work for me. I have alos tried the redeye shads in that color and a DD22. Come to think of it I might have caught one bass on the DD22, but still not a high producer for me.

You have blasphemed against KVD my friend. If he is endorsing it, of couse it's a miracle. I wouldn't be surprised to see his Yota and Z-9 painted like one before long. Just playing Ryan. I caught a few on them during the bream spawn. I think it is like everything else though, it has its time and place.

It didn't have a place on the river today. I fished a 4 and 4S around rock, wood, and drops for a couple hours without a keeper and only a couple hits. Made the switch to grass and the chatterbait and caught a limit in a real short period of time. The Major was frustrated since the grass was too thick and he couldn't work the Red Eye through or over the grassbed. Moved to another location with deeper water but still had a grass edge and hit too more keepers, one being the best fish of the day. The Major had a tough day...... no fish.

I've done well on that sexy shade but for some reason its one lure that the paint is always chipping off and I have hung up and lost about three this year.
I'd rank it as a go to bait for many anglers, I didn't reach for it on the lake the last three weeks, but have used chrome and blue or red on the bass...with lil or no luck at all. bad fall for midwest ohio fishing

JB, this fishing up north has been on fire the past couple of weeks, had a tourney last weekend and we absolutley tore up the bass. We ended up winning with a 15.42 limit of Lake Erie Largemouth. We had one of those 75-80 bass days and by the end of the day we were throwing 2.5 pounders back... Reservoirs have also been pretty hot lately too... I'm surprised to see that not much distance apart means fishing this different.

I have never believed the whole sexy shad craze. I throw rattle-traps a lot and i usually throw chrome and blue. And in a recent tournament the guy up front (who is a GOOD fishermen) was throwin sexy shad and I was throwin chrome and blue and I caught 3 fish and he caught zero. I just don't think its all amazing.

I've caught more Striped bass on it than LMB, but agree it has it's place.
