Minn Kota or BPS trolling motor?

I got $100 cash as a gift from my in-laws. I plan on purchasing a trolling motor for my personal pontoon. I was debating between the Minn Kota and the BPS.

The Minn Kota is the Endura 30HC as shown here at Academy.

The BPS is the Prowler T30/30 show here at Bass Pro Shops.

Both are $99.99 and have 30 lbs of thrust but the Minn Kota has a telescoping handle. Both run off of 12 volts and have 5 forward speeds. The Minn Kota has 3 reverse speeds while the Prowler has 2. Both also have excellent reviews.

I would also like to use this for small 10' john boats that my father-in-law and I would rent at state parks. I know it is strong enough for my personal pontoon but will it be strong enough for the small john boat as well? What do you guys think?

That will be more than enough without breaking the bank man , the minn kota we have one the pelican boat is 27lb thrust and does fine with 2 people in the boat .

Thanks Jim. I am leaning towards the Minn Kota. Everyone has it for $109 but Academy has always had it for $99. The only problem is I have to wait 2 weeks for the local Academy to restock from Christmas sales.

I use a Minnkota endura 46 lb thrust on my 14 ft aluminum.I've zero problems with it.I recommend getting a bigfoot switch for it.I have a Motorguide 46 lb thrust trolling motor as well which I like because of the digital start up is very smooth, not jerky when using the bigfoot foot switch when it is set on the highest setting. You will find that turning the head around in the opposite postion on the shaft to mount the tramsom mount off the bow of the rental boat will pull the boat easier than trying to push it from the transom , especially if there is alot of wind involved for the trip. You will be glad you got the extending handle if you get it.I use a 30 endura on my 14ft john pond boat eith no problems.I have hung into stumps,etc on w/o and it keeps trucking like a timex.

i reccomend getting the minnkota as well. have owned 2 minnkota's now and haven't had any problems with either of them.

Since this is for your personal small craft, you may want to look at the Motor Guide 30 lb thrust motor......much lighter. I had one on a 14 deep vee and it worked very well.

You should be perfectly fine with the 30lb on the 10' jon boat.

I have a 42lb motor guide on our 16' tracker, and it works fine. I would suggest the Minn Kota over a motor guide though.

the bass pro is a motor guide.i have had a minnkota and now have a motorguide and both are good motors,kinda of a chevy-ford thing.

How hard is it to turn the head around? I haven't really looked at it but I am borrowing a 30# Endura for my Pelican right now. If I buy one I think this would be much easier.

I have the endura 30 from minkota on a 14' aluminum, i couldn't be happier, it scoots along great, is extremely quiet, and seems to go alot farther on a charge than a bps a friend has, although that could be due to the difference in our boats (mine has a wider bottom).

I have no idea if that's true or not, but I've had no problems with mine.

Funny thing about electric motors. If you want durability...go with the heavier one, usually.

I haven't used an Endura, but I've always been extremely pleased with the Minn Kota motors that I've owned or used.
