Same here. Let's just say that I don't pass by many tackle stores without stopping and have been known to make a detour to drive near them.
And the licenses.....So far this year it's Ontario (1 week), VT, NY, MS, and AL next week. Normally I get MI, IN, and OH too. Then the boat launch fees... |

I can't stop a tackle shop without buying something.

I think they need to redefine the word "average"

That number seems low for the average bass fisherman especially if a boat, fuel & launching fees are added. I only own a jonboat and I know I spend over $200 a year just on plastics, lures & tackle accessories. If I pick-up a new combo That is probably another $200+/-

I honestly don't want to know how much I spend per year. It's much easier to be in denial.

I'm with you on that one, Cam. I have easily (and then some) spent on tackle and electronics what it would have cost me to upgrade from my 115 Opti to a 175. Easily.

I would say this number is right on... because we cannot be considered average fisherman. This is a full on hobby that we like to enjoy on a weekly basis if possible... where as there just as many on teh other spectrum who fish twice a year and use the same rod/reel they have been using for 20 years and spend all of 10 bucks on hooks, line, and bobbers then a few bucks on nightcrawlers when they go out, and theior fishing license... never own a boat and wont pay to fish anywhere...
So for me I prolly drop over a grand on fishing when you count in cabin rentals at Ky Lake every spring and feeding the monkey... this year i bought a $40 KY fishing opermit and then spent almost that much just to fish in TX for 2 freakin days...I can see where there is a lot of us that spend big money on fishing... but the vast majority prolly doenst spend as much as us... and the fact that we are even on a forum together means that we are that segment of the population that takes this hobby really serious so we all are teh ones spending teh money... |

I agree, Walker.
I paid for a Tennessee license (plus trout) and a Kentucky License when I went to Dale Hollow. I caught zero fish in 3 days, and haven't even fished in Kentucky yet this year (and it isn't looking too promising).

Here is my best guess...
Ky License $20 Tx License $32 (two Days) Ky Lake Cabin $150 Rods/Reels...$200 Lures... $150 Plastics.... $100 Gas... Who knows... So I am over $650 and only half way through the year... ouch |

i haven't responded to this cuz i truly don't know how much i spend. hahaha, never really counted it all up. the wife says "TOO MUCH!" but how can oyu say too much when there is so many lures out there to buy? i mean, come on......every year something comes out that is the 'GOTTA HAVE" bait. some of them are too high dollar for me........well the good ones anyway, haha. but there is also the standards we buy over and over. so i still won't give a dollar amount. let's just say, if there is an extra 10 bucks in my wallet, and i see something i want, i get it. often times i come out the store with an empty wallet, or owing the wife 10 bucks, lol.

You are all missing the point. The article is simply propagating the story we tell our wives. "No, not that much honey...probably $175"

I try not to think about it but I spent that today. Walls bought out the BPS in Nashville and I found some pretty good deals. Everything was 33% off, I wish I would of had $300 to spend.

it's all good bassfishiingmi, i think oyu did the right thing by selling the video game. i know it is boring up there in the dead of winter and you can't go outside and all. man....i gotta hand it you guys, ya'll are TOUGH for living up there for real. but glad oyu would rather fish than play games all day. i had an xbox too, sold after only using it a few times. ain't got time to play games anymore, too busy working and fishing.......well working right now. but gonna hit the lake next month when i finish the workshop. this is the LAST time i move.........well unless there is a REALLY nice place on the river and i have hit the lottery, hahahaha. then i will FISH,FISH,FISH!! haha!
