Feeding the monkey
Well, it had been a few weeks since I'd been to Cabela's and I got the itch this evening, so I made the 3.6 mile drive out there to snoop around. I was mainly hoping to pick up some 10.5" YUM F2 Mightee Worms and YUM Pumpkin E2D Jigs, but as it turns out, they didn't have those in-store just yet.
I had a $20 off coupon that expires soon, so I "had" to buy at least a few things...right? Here is what I ended up coming home with. Senko Kit (21 each of 4" and 5" senkos; for my nephews to share) ZMan Chatterbait Pro 2 (3/8 oz, Pumpkin/Grape Swirl) Heddon Super Spook (Florida Bass color) River2Sea Dahlberg Clackin' Crayfish (Brown Orange) Koppers Live Target Field Mouse (3.5" Grey/White & 3.5" Brown/White) Zoom Super Chunk Jr trailers (Green Pumpkin) Strike King KVD Square Bill Cranks (Chrome Sexy Shad and Gizzard Shad in the 2.5 size; TN Shad and Chili Craw in the 1.5 size) Yum Money Hounds (1 pack of the 4.25" Black Lab color, 1 pack of the 3.5" Pooch color) |

Some say I'm not good at math but the way I figure, $20 coupon, you came out about even ....right?
Wow great afternoon! Can't wait to here about the Hounds and Mice. Man, 3.6 miles from Cabelas. Didn't you mention your wife worked there? Run a mini-resort up north when weather permits. (your cabin) Great fisherman. How do you find time to work? I hate to be the one to ruin your Sunday but you forgot the worms and the E2D's. Back to Cabelas tomorrow! I looked at the E2Ds today so now I need to here about them too. I can't wait to read your posts, cause if your fishing that means I'll be fishing my northern friend! Thanks for sharing and have a great Sunday!

Caught my biggest bass for "our" lake back in 2010 while using a 3.5" black lab money hound, so I already have a soft spot for those. See pics here. I'm really looking forward to the field mice because we seem to have a good mouse bite on our lake, but other brands have used have been a real struggle to hook up with. It is my friend's wife who works at Cabela's. We already have our 2012 cabin season all planned out with 13 trips up there, although 2 of those will be prior to the opening of bass season here. 3 of the trips will be 8 or 9 day trips each and 2 others will be half weeks, so the anticipation is starting to build. Several family members and friends have already signed up for their trip up there to stay with us. Average fisherman (at best) who gets lucky and catches a few fish every now and then. Fishing the same lake a few times a year for 7 years and now many, many times a year for the past 3 years helps. My wife and I are both fortunate to have great jobs where we work 9-hour days for 9 straight days and then have the 10th day off. I take almost no time off from November through May, and I burn up tons of vacation from June through October. And I'll hit 25 years on the job this summer, so my vacation accrual rate will bump up from 4 to 5 weeks a year. There were no worms or E2Ds on the Cabela's shelves here yet, but my nephews will be here in two weekends and my brother-in-law two weekends after that, so there will be more Cabela's visits those weekends to check for them. It will be awhile yet until I can fish here, but I'll be sure to give an update on the new lures once I get a chance to break them out. Dean |

Nice haul! My Cabelas had the Mightee Worm but they didn't have the heads yet either. Those Money Hounds work surprisingly well. I've caught quite a few fish on them in mucky water and haven't had any problems with hook ups and they're fairly durable. The KVD's are great and I can't wait to try out my Field Mouse. You did really well!

Very nice Dean! Always love a good haul, especially with pics!
I am headed up to Michigan today for the Mich-Ohio Fishing Expo, and going to hit Cabela's, and BPS on the way home. I am hoping that our Cabela's has the Pumpkin Ed Jigheads. Ryan

Yeah, I am very anxious to try them out. I have high hopes for them on our lake. I told my fishing buddy the same thing about the money hounds two years ago and caught my biggest bass on that lake with them. I really believe these mice will be good, but only time will tell.
