Fish On-what I use to make the spinnerbaits
OK, first, here is where I have been buying my stuff:
http://www.staminainc.com/main.html Now, as to the components: I like the King spinnerbait heads-more lifelike. They range from 1/4 oz. to 1/2 oz. Beads-5/32" Clevis-#3 Nickle Swivel-they are listed as spinnerbait swivels. Blades-take your pick. I use mid-range sizes-3 & 4. On a 1/2 oz. bait I may use a size 4.5 willow, but any bigger than that you get too much torque IMO. If I'm making a single Colorado bait I use a 5 or a 6, usually a 6. Skirts-I like the Starflash skirts-the silicone is round and they have I think 50 strands. I also like one of the Barbed Wire jig skirts-it is called blue ghost. Tools: I use 3, you can get by with 2: A pair of needle nose and a pair of split ring. I also use a pair of wire loop pliars. The jaws are round designed to bend loops in wire. Takes about 2 minutes to make one if everything is close at hand. Hope this helps!

Thanks I am going to look into it. I love making my own baits. I made two baitfish style hair jigs. Gray top with white bottom.

Just make sure you order everything you need-coming up one component short is real frustrating. The first post lists all the components. One suggestion-when you order, in the special instructions ask them to backorder any out of stock items. Otherwise they will ship what they have and ask you to re-order the out of stock items. They have been out of stock on a few things for a while but I just got an email telling me they had shipped my last order, so I think they have everything in stock now.

Sorry, misunderstood you. The eyes are already on-I use the King spinnerbait bodies.
I start by putting a bead on the wire, then put the clevis through the front blade and thread it on the wire. Important point: Make sure the cup of the blade points away from the head-it won't spin otherwise. Then thread on two or three more beads-I usually go with 3 for a 1/2 oz. bait and 2 for a 3/8 and 1/4 oz. Now you are ready to bend the wire. I start with a pair of wire loop pliers, but needlenose will work. I point the bait so the line tie is pointing at me, and bend the wire straight down. Then I turn it over so I'm looking at the underside of the bait. Then I bend the wire down so it almost touches the wire in a loop. I find doing it this way keeps the loop straight up and down. If you see the end of the wire is not going to hit the wire you can adjust the angle so it does. Don't crimp it down yet. Then get your swivel and put the rear blade on it-having a good pair of split ring pliers really helps. Once you get the blade on, put the other end on the wire and then use your needlenose to close the loop so the swivel will stay in place. Skirts: I'm right handed, so if you are not just reverse this. I hold it vertical in my right hand at the skirt keeper and let the part above the keeper fall over and hang down. Then I adjust it how I want it to go on the bait-for example, if it is blue and white I want the blue to be on the top of the bait so I move the blue strands so they are on the left side of the skirt. Then take the bait in your other hand, put the point of the hook in the center of the strands at the keeper, push it on the hook, then thread it up past the skirt keeper on the bait. These are REAL easy to make. And the combinations you can put together are endless. If you have any other questions just holler.

Thanks, Rebbasser, for the detailed account on spinnerbait making. It's step by step instructions like this that make things clear for everyone. Good fishing, Mac

Done that, too. Just add extra beads and blades-I've been using 2 beads to separate the blades. Otherwise it is exactly the same.

KH haven't made one since yet. That one I lost in some brush pile somebody put at the mouth a canal so people don't try and go in there. I spent 20 minutes trying to get it undone. No fish but two swipes at it.
