Default Opening Day..

..I got skunked, lol! Weatherman was wrong, it was a nice day, alternating from slightly overcast to sunny, high of about 65!! With 7-8 mph wind from Dixie.

It had been relatively warm the last week or so, and I figured the water temps were probably in the mid-low 50's. I'd bet money the fish are starting to fatten up for the spawn and are now in pre-spawn. I hit the Northern end of a large norther cove which Miller Creek drains into. Basically a big flat (looking at topo maps, it seems like a likely spawning area. The the water was much clearer then I anticipated, and wish I had tied a leader on.. Lots of folks on the water, couple boats passed by.. I could here the clicks of there baitcasters.. and could tell one guy was fishing a W&M tessara spinning rod w/ a jerkbait. A couple other guys in a nice Nitro were tossing spinnerbaits.

Started the day out fishing a Nemesis Baits Upskirt jig in McCarter's Magic, and lost it on a log after about 15 mineites. I'll definitely have to get more of these, sweet looking jigs and they come through the weeds well. One of the first things I noticed was lilly pads starting to peek out of the waters surface. Tied on a black and blue texas rigged beaver. Nothing, switched to a rouge and stuck with that for a while, tossing it into the wind, on the wind blown shore. Found a deeper sports by a drainage bridge, with a rip rap bank. I though for sure I was gonna get one there, but again nothing. Wish I had brought the spinning rod with me, I would have tried dragging a drop shot around, maybe I'll try that tomorrow.

Moved to the eastern end of the cove, it has lots of stumps and wooded cover around, so I tossed another upskirt jig around, lost it too, lol. So I put a SK pro model jig hit the rest of the cove with no hits. I got to see some lucky fella in a Tracker caught a nice largemouth though, lol.

Called it quites, and headed home. I'll try to get out and finesse stuff around tomorrow, maybe a DS around the rip rap and SH around the wood. Heading up north next weekend though, buddy of mine caught 30 bass today on the Jump river.

Thanks for reading guys.

Certainly sounds like you gave it your best shot! Don't worry Boss, you'll get em for sure!
Haven't seen any lilys pokin through yet around here, but they're on their tiptoes trying to get to the surface!

Sounds like your water temps need to get up a lil higher
