My buddy caught this nice one last Saturday. Let's play guess the weight and length for a few days before I reveal the answers.

Who wants to start us off?

OK, the official numbers for Jeff's fish are...

Weight -- 5lb 4oz
Length -- 19.5"

Between Jeff, his wife and their cabin guests, and Kaye, me and our cabin guests, we have caught over 7,200 Largemouth Bass on this lake over the years. This one ranks as the 3rd biggest all-time, behind only a 5lb 13oz LM that Jeff caught in mid-October a couple years ago and a 5lb 7oz that a mutual friend of ours caught in August a few years ago. My best on this lake is 5lb 1oz.

Nice fish. I got the length close. My guess on the weight proves why I always carry and use a scale. I don't trust myself.

Yep, same here -- always have a scale, hawg trough, and camera on board.

A five pounder? -- you must be a large man. Thanks for the nice photo and the chance to guess the size. Congrats on the catch. I always guess the weight of the bass I catch just before weighing them.

That isn't me in the pic, it's my friend, Jeff. He is probably just a little over 6' tall. It weighed the same on each of our scales, which makes sense since we have the same kind. This is MN, and the fish on this lake tend to be short, but usually very "stocky". I have seen a Largemouth as short as 17.75" that weighed 4lb 3oz, and all three LM I have seen that were 20" were all 5+ pounds. I'm assuming this one was full of eggs.

To me, the scariest part of that picture ...
A coat and snood/hoodie in the middle of MAY !!! Jeezo peezo, I couldn't live where it was that cold for that many months of the year !!!

I guess you get used to it. I could never live where it is so dang HOT so much of the year. Once it gets above 70 I start to squirm. 75 is my absolute cutoff, anything hotter than that is "indoor with the AC cranked up" weather.

Ha...good one! You know, it's been like that for as long as I can remember, which is 9 years as an occasional guest at Jeff's cabin and 6+ more years as a cabin owner on this lake. I'll see if I can get you a good deal on it.

As for my over guess,was trying to inflate the ego,and not guess low or under.
I wholeheartedly agree no coats or bundled up that late in the year.
