Default Droppin' The Shot...

Since my little musky adventure yesterday, I found lots of new ledges and creek channels using the Carolina Rig in coordination with my depth finder, and really want to hit these areas with a Drop-Shot. Problem is, I don't know for sure if they are directly under the boat, even if they are registering on the depth finder.

How should I use my depth finder to get close to the ledge as possible? Is there any special setting I should use to make my depth finder as 'real-time' as possible? How fast should I be moving the boat when searching for the ledges? When I do find the ledge on my depth finder, should I drop down a marker buoy immediately? Where on the ledge, (bank, direct center, sides, etc.), should I drop the marker buoy?

Thanks in advance,

-Buzz

Depth radars are usually placed on the back of the boat (near the motor). Try to find the sensor(usually a small black object about 3in in lenght), and if it is on the back of the boat, then the radar scannings are those in which you probably have passed. If so, find your destined depth, then turn around 5 feet and that will most probably be what you were looking at on your depth finder.
