1.) Try to use it with a 6'-6'' medium or 7' medium rod so that you can maximize casting distance. 2.) Use braided line or at least 17 lb mono so that you can get the fish out of cover quickly if it tries to break you off. Plus, you don't have to worry about the line being as invisible since it will be on the water's surface during the retrieve. 3.) When you cast, start to engage the reel and begin reeling just before the buzzbait hits the water so that you keep it on the surface for the majority of the cast. 4.) Always use a trailer hook on your buzzbait so that you have a better chance of hooking up especially with those short strikers. 5.) Have a second rod ready rigged with a tube, superfluke, or senko so that if a fish strikes but misses your buzzbait you can cast that soft plastic right to the spot where the fish hit and catch'em. Good Luck! |

That pretty much sums it up-chunk and wind. Â*Use it in the same place you would use a topwater-in weeds, pads, around stick-ups, etc. Â*One thing I do without fail is to use a trailer hook-a lot of times bass will hit a buzzbait short and you will catch it on the trailer. Â*You can get hooks packaged as trailer hooks, but any hook will work as long as the point of the main hook goes through the eye of the trailer. Â*To keep the trailer hook on the main hook I use a hole punch on a plastic coffee can lid and use one of the disks. Â*Punch the point of the main hook through the center of one of the disks and slide it down on the main hook like this: |

I've had most of my hits on buzzbaits (immediately as it touches the water) when i throw near mossy stuff at the surface of the water. Â* Also, i find them best early in the day. Sandra |

i like chunking out a buzzbait. it is my go to lure, when the summer months are around, also for it to be effective, you want a cloudy day and some wind prefferably.

Don't know about ripples but buzz baits worked good for me on glass smooth surfaces. Didn't use a trailer but will this year. Also I will have that second bait ready for the ones that I miss with the buzz. Missed one last year that was pretty big. Found out what they mean by a bass blowing up on the surface. Bob |
