Sweet Beavers, anyone use them other then heavy cover?

seems like every time someone mentions a bait like the beavers they are talking about using them in heavy cover....anyone fish them in situations other then heavy cover?

Use them around reeds mostly, it's the only place I've ever used them, but I've only used them a few times.... so.... well ya, have not goton the chance to use them in heaver cover.

nothing says you can't t-rig or c-rig 'em. maybe something different than your competition is showing

yeah i have heard they give a different look than other things so i have heard people t-rig and c-rig them in any occasion to give a different look.... also the smallies as a jig trailer

I am going to try them tomorrow in a dead lake down the road from the house, and I will get back with you on it. Conditions are going to tough tomorrow though.

I had some success with a c-rig while ledge fishing. Flipping in heavy cover and I have used them as a jig trailer. The downside is that my wife got a little pissed last year when my 5 year old made the statement "I like me some sweet beaver." I was too busy laughing to defend myself.

i'd rather have tough conditions...then no conditions....we have snow again today in chicago.....ice on most lakes

While I don't use Sweet Beavers, I do use Ugly Otters which is in the same family of soft plastic lure. Their compact design is really made for pitching into all sorts of tight cover. I use them pitched into weed holes, in and around laydowns, into brush, and skipped under overhangs. I prefer to work a creature bait with more flowing appendages along weed edges or on flats.

Like all soft plastics I only use 3 colors, white pearl, green pumpkin or watermelon with black flake, and June Bug.

Tried it, but got skunked, I think the water was too dirt for my colors though. All I have right now is the watermelon, green pumpkin, and the dirty sanchez. Got 2 bumps on the black saphire brush hog though.

You can see from what I use wt'd and unweighted creature type plastics, I'm not a big jig man other then a finesse 1/8-1/4 oz jig during ice out. For me, I'm much more comfortable with plastics then a jig & pig, and the bite is much easier for me to detect.

I use mini beavers alot in the spring . They work great , try dropshotting with them for early season bass . Color wise I like watermelon pepper , white , oxblood & crayfish . I've seen them rigged on a jig with the hook point coming out thru the side of the bait so it resembles a small panfish .

I've had alot of success with the sweet beaver rigged on a shakey head. A friend of mine fished hers texas rigged and slowly dragged it across a rock bottom. She didn't win the tournament, but she did bring fish to the scale.

I don't know if you would catagorize a pad field as heavy cover but I've had good luck on them before the pads come up. Watermelon color seems to work good for me. I t-rig them with a light weight and hop them through the pads.
