ok a good question has any one used the van saal pliers? or has the bait monkey gone crazy and made ya pick up a pair of pliers that cost 279 bucks? and just why do these hook removel tools cost so dam much?

I bought a pair of Rapala foreceps(spelling)/scissor combo for $11.00 and I thought that was bad enough. They are really nice though so I got over it! I don't believe I would pay $200 bucks for a pair of pliers, thats a lot of tackle that could be bought instead

I bought 2 sets at BPS that were like 17$ apiece. They appear to be better than those that cost less.
They don't rust.

I might be wrong, but I think in my Cabelas fly fishing catalog Van Saal also made a very high end large arbor fly fishing reel. In which case I would assume that Van Saal is like Orvis as far as named brand highway robbery goes, but much worse.

279.00 for pliers/tool is just too over budget.....I'd get a Boga grip, Rapala Pliers and De-Barb tool for under 150.00 total!

For 279.00 they better be made out of Platnum, Rimmed in Gold and unhook the fish by themselves while still in the display case at home.

doh also for got to mention that $279 was the mid priced pair o pliers they start at 190 and top out at 314. the company claims "will cut any fishing line "
i use a cheap old pair from wally world that or my leatherman

I'll stick with my Gerber multi-tool, if I can't get the hook out with those or the hemostats- that fish gets to keep the bait
