Weedless Crankbaits
To some of you this may seem as a stupid question, but is there anyway to make a crankbait weedless?

Re: Weedless Crankbaits
Take the hooks off. ;D
Sorry, I couldn't resist. The best way is to cut the leading hook off the treble which leaves you with a double hook on each hanger. This way the remaining two will face up and the front one will tuck against the body. This will let them glide over the weeds better without catching them all. Scott |

Re: Weedless Crankbaits
If you want to make the WEEDless, do what boltzie said. If you want them snagless, get a shallow diving square--billed crank and run it through brushpiles and and downed trees fearlessly, if you get snags, you're doing something wrong.

Re: Weedless Crankbaits
There is an old crankbait called the Spence Scout that is designed specially not to snag. It had gaurds that protected the treble hooks. About 5 years ago another crankbait called the timber tiger or something along those lines was introduced that had the same concept as a spence scout but it was updated a little, but I havent seen those in a couple years.

When you feel it hit something... just stop it and let it come over it... works great i've caught some big bass asoon as it snaps the stump or log and stops BAM!

Re: Weedless Crankbaits
Ratl- from what Ive heard that is very effective. I was told that the gills will swim and ram themselves into logs to knock parasites off their body. A lot of times this will cause a momentary shock to the fish. (Kinda like getting your bell rung) All the bass has to do is just swim up and eat. I do the same technique w/ spinnerbaits. 8)
