Gander, BPS, Cabelas, or Dicks?
Which one do you guys like better? I like BPS, never been to Cabelas, or dicks. But the just opened a Dicks near by, so I'm going next weekend!

When I lived in Tulsa there was a nice tackle shop called "Okiebug" that had a huge indoor aquarium stocked with all the right stuff.....i'd stop by during feeding time occasionally just to watch them big ol bass just slam them poor ol goldfish....lol. I dunno if the store still exists or not, but it was the largest tackle shop i'd ever been in next to Jimmy Houstons store in Cookson Oklahoma.....since then i've been in the Springfield and the Broken Arrow Bass pro shops one time each....they are quite the showplace stores....very cool inside....a man could spend a weekend wanderin around one of those stores...lol.

I got to say BPS. Gander and dicks are the only stores we have nearby and both are heck to get in and out of. I hate driving in the city. I have not the temperment for stop, wait, go, stop, wait, go....

I gotta go with Gander because it is closest. I like the BPS in Baton Rouge and Pearl, but I seldom go. But I might stop by on my way home at the Red Stick though. They have a Cabelas south of Baton Rouge, but some one told me it isn't worth the time when the BPS is next door. I like Academy, too. I wish they would open one in Hattiesburg. Anybody want to pool up, we could make a killin'.

Academy Sport Center, it's another outdoors chain store. I've got one about a mile from the house. Not as big as a BPS, but ours has a very good selection of stuff.

Thanks bud! I'll have to look at the locations! Edit: Ya, the closest one is in near Pensacola! I think I'll stick with Gander and BPS!

I am lucky to have all 4 stores within a drive of my home. The baitmonkey loves me. I would have to say BPS overall, especially in the fishing dept. However, there are things at Cabelas I like better, such as boating supplies, clothing, and camping stuff. However, when it comes to fishing tackle Gander Mountain here runs a very close second with Cabelas. Cabelas is larger but Gander always seems to have what I want, it's smaller and closer. Needless to say, our local WalMart has cut back drastically on fishing tackle, which is too bad because for people in our town, it's only minutes away while the BPS which is the next closest of the 4 above is 30 minutes away. Who wants to burn up an hours worth of gas driving there for a couple lures???

Wow! You're really lucky! My dad has Gander on his way back from work.
How ever, I'm sad to say that his bait monkey does not get as good as it does me!

This isn't even close, BPS hands down. Sadly, there's not one around here so I do my "show up in real life" shopping at Gander.

I gotta go with BPS.
Our dicks has a horrible fishing section. Gander Mountain's not bad, ours just isn't a big store, so not a lot of stuff. Cabela's is huge, but they don't have that great of a fishing selection. And it's not organized at all!! So for bass fishing, BPS gets my vote. BB

Well.. I actually go to a chain start called Meijers for most of my stuff. Just because I hate the customer service at BPS.
I went the first week it opened here and they were rude and very unknowledgeable about basic stuff so I haven't been back since. I've had a few friends say the same thing and one of my friends was severely mistreated when he went with his family for some autograph signing thing. I've always been a fan of more mom and pop shops then big chain stores anyway. Around here there are tons of bait shops if one looks and for hunting I always go to Clelands. Anymore I think the best bet is to just shop online anyway. I think if you want to rate it for fishing you have to go. 1. Bass Pro (even with bad customer service since if you want it it's there) 2. Cabela's ours is decent but is geared mainly towards camping/hunting) 3. Gander Mountain (nice shop but small I think that meijers has about the same lure selection) 4. Dicks (versatile store but not to great for fishing. At least not the one I was at) |

Im convinced they didnt put one second of research into the south Florida fishing scene before they opened the doors last year.
