Default trolling moter installation tip

i have run my moter guide in to the ground so i broke down and bought a new one. i used the same holes as the old one. after much cussing and sweating i finally got it in and working.
so here is the tip .
1-never throw out the old mount till you are done with it.
2-never go to bps in charrlette during race week.
3-installing it in 100 degree heat was pretty dumb of me.
4-always pays to have every thing ready to install.
5- first aid kit to mend all cuts, scratches, and salt tablets

Zook
You forgot the most important tip of all....always keep a cooler full of cold ones nearby in case of an emergency.

a couple things to look out for...if your changing over from a motorguide to a minnkota, the bolt holes won't line up.rather tthan drill more holes in my fiberglass,i drilled new holes in the mounting bracket.works just fine.and..it's much easier to use the trolling motor mounting grommets with the nut molded in than trying to put bolts through then putting nuts and washers on.trying to get your hand in that little hole to put the nuts and washers on can be painful sometimes.
also for some unknown reason my boat had 2 extra holes for mounting the trolling motor.i used the 4 grommet/nuts on the ends of the bracket.where the 2 extra holes in the middle were drilled,i was able to (almost painlessly)put 2 bolts with big washers under nylon lock type nuts on them, just to be safe.just make sure if you are going to use nuts and bolts, you use some type of rubber washer between the TM mount and the boat.
the TM mounting kits are available through BPS or most marine suppliers.i think wally world may even have them.

If you're talking about the rubber isolation bolts that MG uses they work great. But do NOT buy them from a MG repair dealer. They really like those things. You can get them at BPS or Wally World for less than half what I paid at a MG repair center. OH well. I needed them NOW. He had them.
