Default A way to repel blackflies?

It's blackfly season! And while mosquitoes will usually go away with a good spray of bug repellent, I've yet to find anything that actually repels blackflies.

It's really hard to concentrate on fishing with two hands with a huge swarm around you. I can put on a bug-hat and wear long sleeves, except it is almost 70 degrees and that would be rather warm.

Any good sprays out there that actually work against these critters? ???

Skin so Soft was a great repellant for us. Even kept the famed sand fleas away also keeps horseflies away. 8)

ARCHER,

Taking one vitamin B-1 every day causes your body to develop a natural repellent to mosquitos and gnats. I have done this for the last couple years and it works for me. I don't know if it would work for black flies or not. Vitamin B-1 is cheap, and it won't hurt you, so why not try it. It may not start working for a couple days or weeks, I generally start taking them in March.
Also, BPS has pants and shirts made by World Wide Sportsman, called "Bug-Off" that has a ntural repellent woven into the fiber.

Those sound like they are worth a shot to me Jack. I think I'll look into them both, thanks!

An insect repellent with a high concentration of DEET will work...if it can repel ticks, it'll work on those pesky blackflies!

I've gotten bitten by so many black flies and horse flies over the past two years I don't really mind them any more.
