Do I need to....
I use trailor hooks on my buzzbaits, but I was wondering if should use them on my spinnerbaits. I get alot of short strikes, some times even bent blades. curious to know what you guys think.

Re: Do I need to....
Yep. Unless I am fishing in real heavy grass, I always have a trailer hook on mine.

Re: Do I need to....
I do unless I use something like a curl tailed grub as a trailer and always on a buzzbait.

Re: Do I need to....
I have them, and use them occasionally. I really only use them if I am getting short strikes, which really doesn't happen to me that often. But if it does happen, I'll put one on.

Re: Do I need to....
ive never bought a trailer hook if your missin thaty many fish ur goin tofast or need to work on color lil bit
i set a nother pole right next to me when im spinnin a medium 6"6 pole jus my preference with a zook or like a tikki worm thats close to the color of the spinner bait and toss it in were u got hit and bump it slow like a wounded bait this works better than addin hooks course i fish in thick stuff all the time so i realy get more probs than benifits |

Re: Do I need to....
I put a trailer hook on my buzzbaits and spinnerbaits 95% of the time. Very seldom do I use either without a trailer- I hate to miss fish > I've heard of some even using more than one trailer hook but have never done that myself.

Re: Do I need to....
The only problem with trailer hooks on your spinnerbaits is that they'll get hung up more often with the additional hook.
Granted, you will catch more fish while using a trailer hook. |

Re: Do I need to....
bassnman, are your hooks free swinging? Â*What I mean is some folks put a piece of rubber or plastic tubing over the eye of the trailer hook and punch the point of the main hook through it. Â*That can cause the hook to point out at an angle leading to more hang-ups. Â*I use a hole punch on a plastic lid and use one of the disks. Â*Put the trailer hook on, then punch the point of the main hook through the center of the disk and slide it down on the hook shank. Â*Holds the hook in place but lets it be free swinging:
So far I really haven't gotten hung up using this method. |

Re: Do I need to....
I have never really had the need for them my self. If i miss a fish on buzz or spinner i'll throw a weightless t-rig lizard, senko or rubber jerk.. if there deep a t-rig 1/2 oz tube bait. as long as i cast accurate they will be there looking still usually.. If they are not sore lipped..

Re: Do I need to....
I remember once I had a shirt which I had ripped on one of those tie downs on my Dads truck - well I didn't have anything to use as a keeper so I pulled a knife out and used a piece of fabric from the shirt. Almost anything will work for that deal, but do make sure that the hook is free swinging. If you use shrink tubing, don't put it over the eye of the hook like most people do, just put the hook on free swinging and then add the tubing.

Re: Do I need to....
Yea Rebbasser, I do mine the same as you have in the photo. Free swinging hooks.
Kevin Vandam stated the same thing, you'll get hung up more but you'll catch more fish. |

Re: Do I need to....
I use trailor hooks almost always on spinnerbaits and buzzbaits. I have seen people use as many and 5-6 trailor hooks for buzzbaits.
