Re: C-rig Question.
The only thing i can say negative about using braid for the mainline is that you need to practice with it some to figure out how to set the drag. I use mono myself, but have fished with several people who broke off way too much using braid for the main line. They of course broke the leader, but still it cost them fish. I would say go for it but make sure you get it down pat before using it in a tourney.

Re: C-rig Question.
set what drag?i'm using 50lb braided and 17lbmono.don't need no stinkin'drag..lol.i'll rip that suckers face off we don't have bass here big enough to break that line ;Dbreak the rod on a hookset,maybe..not that i have ever done that Â*:-/
just kiddin'cul, you are right about adjusting the drag,if only to save your rod i very seldom use a c-rig in a tourney anyway. |

Re: C-rig Question.
I use braid for my main line and flourocarbon for the leader. I like to use a 7' baitcast rod for fishing a carolina rig.

Re: C-rig Question.
There is no need to use such heavy line with a C- rig. I use 15lb test big game for my main line and a flourocarbon leader. It works out just fine. I mean you aren't going to be throwing this rig into the middle of a tree top. Along side it, yeah, maybe, but C-rigs were not made to be fished in the heaviest cover you can find. There are other baits that serve that purpose.

Re: C-rig Question.
I use 20lb(8lb dia.) Fireline(fused) as my main line, and either Trilene XL or Stren 12lb mono for my leader. I agree with mtbassman77 as to throwing it more into open type structure. It's not a good rig for timber etc..., so the line durability around heavy cover isn't a big issue. I use these same lines for everything currently except a PNJ, which I use Powerpro Braid 50lb.

Re: C-rig Question.
Up here in Wisconsin I use 17 lb man line on a 7ft MH baitcaster with 17lb leader. Both XL. I used power pro as my main line last year and only caught a few fish. Didn't like it's castability either. I can feel what my sinker is telling me better with mono. Have thought about using fireline as the main line for it's low stretch and sensativity but just have more confidence in casting the mono. 17lb for abrasion resistance, 3/8 to 1 oz sinker and the 17lb leader. I'd use a smaller diameter leader but I like how 17lb holds my lizard or creature bait off the bottom. I think the fluro leader (even though more stealthy presentation) sinks to fast and you end up just dragging your plastic on the bottom.

Re: C-rig Question.
I am going to start using braid for my main line this year also. Â*I fish with several guys who use braid with a mono leader and have great success. Â*You should try Spiderwire Stealth for the braid. Â*It is very sensitive and has great strength. Â*The best thing about using braid is that the stretch is not there like it is with mono. Â*You can fish down to 60 feet and still get a hookset like you would in 10 feet of water. Â*Try it. Â*See what you think. Â*If you don't feel comfortable go back to a strong mono.

Re: C-rig Question.
thanks everyone on the good info. I'll giver some thought
leaning towards 40lb braid with a 2 foot 12lb mono leader. why cause i'll carry it any way's for all the other poles. don't see the sence in the extra takle when I already carry it in the boat and tackle Dan 2canbass |

Re: C-rig Question.
20 lb stren w/14 lb stren Fluoro. as the leader.
Broke too many fish off using lighter lines. No problem now. |

Re: C-rig Question.
I really hate to throw a Carolina rig at all these days but if I do, 14 or 15lb line does the trick.

Uh.... Yeah. ??? Who are you kidding. ??? PowerPro not castable! It flies like a frigging rocket. And I have to disagree with you on feeling the sinker better on mono. No way. I am so used to the sensitivity of PowerPro, I can't feel anything on mono. And it breaks way to easy. Ok, enough of my rant. ;D I use PowerPro for everything. For C-Rigging, I use30# PP, with a 30#PP leader. I do not even like mono as a leader. And I notice no differance in catches, and the thinner diameter keeps the bait lifelike. Charles |

Bassboss:
When I wrote: I used power pro as my main line last year and only caught a few fish. Didn't like it's castability either. I can feel what my sinker is telling me better with mono. . Instead of mono I meant to say flurocarbon. My fault. Suffix hybrid. That previous statement did make me sound like an idiot. LOL |
