Re: best baitcaster
I'm not a expert on baitcasters, but without a doubt the best buy for under $100 is go to Wal-Mart and find the Curado for $60(I haven't found them yet). But if you can get one for that price, it's by far the best buy on a baitcaster LP

[/quote] Yes it's a Shimano, and Bassintom keeps buying out all of the Wal-Mart's, you better hurry. Also Bassintom says to make sure they scan it, because it may not be marked as a sale item. Lizards |

Re: best baitcaster
I picked up a quantom accurist 500pt today for $87
at academy and this thing rocks.I had a pinnicle and it sucked bad,it would cast lite baits with ease, but put a half ounce jig n pig on there and try to flip and it wasn't worth squat. It was a smooth reel but it was all over the place, and I really believe it was because of a poor braking system. It was hard to control and wasn't very accurate. Abu Garcia has a nice new low profile out over at walmart and my brother in law picked one up for around $50 and its pretty good, its smooth and has a nice braking system, I prefer it alot over the pinnicle, but none of them even come close to my new Quantom, its just awsome,it normally goes for $99 and to me its one of the best deals out there. Bass pro also makes the Rick Clunn reel in the same price range which I'v also heard good things about. The curado is about the most popular reel in its price range, and I really don't think a person can go wrong with it eaither. You gonna get what you Pay for, and once you buy it your stuck with it so choose wisely. I would rather pay a little more for somthing I'm going to enjoy!!! PHIL G.

Re: best baitcaster
Pfluegers will grit up on ya . :Pgo with an old Quantum,or the Kevin VanDam signature series. The pfleugers[trion only, dont know about the others]won't handle much abuse. If you leave e'm alone they might work great.I know my Plueger wasthe smuthest reel at the shop[GanderMTN.]but if you havent bought one already[I'M LATE]buy a KVD,or old Quantum[Kevin VanDam is Quantum],but if you have the money buy a Team Diawa,Fuego,or Sol

Re: best baitcaster
I'm a new guy here but I'm going to throw my two cents in as well. been fishing over 30 yrs. started with an old shakespere and pflueger back when there wasn't anti-reverse on those reals just a click switch. Since your new buy cheap untill you really learn how to use it well and then start looking at the higher dollar reels. Try other peoples equipment that you fish with to see how you like it. Don't let the weight of a rod deter you either. That only really becomes a big factor when your fishing tournaments and have developed to the level where you can cast 1000+ times in a day of fishing. most begginers can't. Ugly stick will work for ya with spinner baits and cranks. and go with a shorter rod untill you become accurate. accuracy is a lot more important than distance.

Re: best baitcaster
These days I use Quantum Energy PT Series reels ( the ones that cost 160$ at BPS). Not the KVD series.
However I do agree that the Garcia ABU reels are great reels at a great price. I personnaly prefer the 4600C3 which is 5:1. You may try a 4600C4 which is 6:1. I was hooked on ABU reels for some 25 yrs. If you get one you won't look back. They last forever. |
