Re: best baitcaster
My money only goes on Pflueger. You can get the Trion LP for around 99, the Trion Round for 80 and the Purist for 80. Best reels i have ever used in this price range.

Re: best baitcaster
bb's favorite rod is falcon, and for good reason. They're light, sensitive, and all the other good stuff. As far as reels go, I like the BPS Extreme. Awesome reel, easy to handle, casts light lures as well as heavy, handles like a dream, and its cheap. I know a lot of people like shimano, but I don't see whats so great about them, especially for the price.

Bass Pro Extreme reels and AllStar rods. All I use and love them. They won't break the bank, either. I'd reommend them to anybody looking for a good rod and reel.

It's a good rod for the money. It's not a $100.00 rod. Then again it doesn't cost $100.00. |

Re: best baitcaster
bassin4ever,
Along with Pflueger I think a silent sleeper for baitcasters is Pinnacle. I have two Janis HS reels and I really like them. I bought the first one at Gander Mt. for about $70.00 and the second one on E-bay for $40.00. Pinnacle also makes some of Cabela's reels and their Tournament ZX reel is the same as my Janis reels. Right now Cabela's has them on sale for $60.00. |

I like the Bass pro shop reels and Pinnacle reels for under $100.00.If you can check out the Castaway rods, They are worth the money but so are most of the rods on the market.I 'll try to post a factory outlet for Pure fishing products for you. ;D P N J

Re: best baitcaster
Do yourself a favor and spend the extra $20 and buy a Curado. Buy four-they're small. Boldt |

Re: best baitcaster
Humboldt, Why would he do Shimano a favor and buy an inflated priced reel, let alone 4 of them , when there are better reels for his dollars out there on the market ?My $49.99 Bass pro shop Extreme reel does everything that my Shimano Curado I had would do with out taking the whupping to the wallet.Bassin Fever, do your self a favor and stay under the $100.00 and still get your self a respectable reel with a Pflueger, Pinnacle, Bass pro shop reel that will last many years without the inflated price for the big "S "name. Re: best baitcaster
At one point I used nothing but Shimano's, but watching their prices continually go up, I was not going to spend more than $100 their equipment. That's when I went to Quantum and haven't looked back.

Re: best baitcaster
I only use the Shimano Japan reels like the Scorpion and the Scorpion MG. Fantastic reels. Match them up with a Kistler Helium and you'll be set.

Re: best baitcaster
I'm going to place my vote on this topic...
Bass Pro Shops Extreme reel and All Star Rod! You may notice that is the same combo that Reb recommended...well, when I asked the same question a few months ago that is what he suggested and that is what I have now...well, I guess I should say that I have four of those combos now. |

Re: best baitcaster
For years I used bantams for salmon and steelhead and lost faith in them when they got flimsy with plastic and lame drags. I warmed up to the Quantums for their superior drags, but have stripped the guts out of several and would no longer consider purchasing one. I thought that this thumb bar craze was going to be a passing fad and I was rather slow to conform. Not to take anything away from a forty-nine dollar reel that BPS puts their name on (I'm sure it's fantastic), but I like the low profile of the Curado and I think it's a good compromise between the dregs and a two to three hundred dollar reel. Lets face it. Now days they're all pretty good and I'd enjoy fishing with any of them. Boldt |
